Soren's version of 5.3's ending. An emotion that has been on my mind since I played this part of MSQ over five months ago.

Soren and the Exarch ascend the Crystal Tower staircase in a sprint. "Not here either. We must keep climbing," the Exarch says. He runs behind Soren, a gentle and caring expression on his face. He falls - crying out - before Soren turns around to run to where he sits hunched, calling out his name.

"What's wrong?" Soren asks in the background, the Exarch's pained face looking away.

The camera focuses on his fully crystalized leg - "it was only a matter of time."

Soren looks at the crystallization in a panic. "No, the crystal..." She kneels beside him, ears flattened in dismay.

The Exarch does not look up at her, still winced in pain. In reply, he says "I cannot keep up with you, Soren. You must go on without me. Find Elidibus, and stop him."

A better look at his face reveals his hesitation.

Soren closes her eyes, distress and sadness washing over her, as she says "G'raha, stop. Please - We're going to fix this, I don't... I don't want to go alone.... not this time..." Her speech bubbles get smaller and less certain.

A comic-style page of photos. The Exarch sits and looks at Soren with a gentle expression, while her eyes widen at him. "Worry not, my friend. Though I am no warrior, I have learned to hold my own over the years."

His voice drifts into the air, echoing in the massive halls of the crystal tower. "When we first explored this tower, as you led the van to victory, how I wished I could join you, not just follow in your wake."

He smiles brightly at Soren, looking into her eyes - perhaps right into her heart. He touches his hand to his chest - "but now I have. Here where we began."

Looking down on the two miqo'te, the Exarch continues. There's a bit of magic in the air. "I was right to trust in the power of your legacy... of your name."

Soren's eyes widen - you see nothing else. "My name..." she thinks. Her mind wanders back to sitting in the Pendants with him, when she couldn't find the words for her affections.

Further back, to signing up at the adventurer's guild, and of leaving a piece of her in the Southern Thanalan desert to start anew. To the Scions, standing in the Rising STones, when Minfilia and Papalymo still breathed. To leaving Ul'dah with Alphinaud after the banquet.

SHe returns to the present, her eyes squeezed such in concentration...
