I was admitted to the hospital for emergency surgery at the end of finals week last Dec. I found out my college’s health service charged me $200 for saying “go to the ER” that day - to be fair, they were right. Today my primary care provider dropped me after I got on Medicaid, leaving me with $400 of bills after all possible aid. My job ended with the semester. I’m trying to get a new part-time job that will work around grad school, but it’s been a huge challenge for too many reasons to list. So, right now Mara is supporting me and their mom, who hasn’t been able to work since an injury this fall. I feel awful asking bc so many people are in worse situations. Hyur Fray and Au Ra Fray board a small boat at the far edge of Tuliyollal’s port, checking that no one is watching. Hyur Fray notes they cannot go any farther because Elanor forbid them from getting too far, while Au Ra Fray teases them despite being under similar orders from Sidurgu. Once seated, Hyur Fray notices Au Ra Fray’s chest and awkwardly asks whether it is a result of the recently used fantasia or something that was always been that way. Au Ra Fray misunderstands the question, and Hyur Fray quickly changes the subject, explaining their request: to use Au Ra Fray’s temporary appearance to confront their aversion to Au Ras and asking for a small amount of aether so they can properly feel and remember the sensation. Au Ra Fray warns that sharing aether is dangerous, as he cannot stop it from flowing outward and Hyur Fray cannot expel excess once their core is full. They silently agree to proceed carefully. Seeing Hyur Fray begin to tremble, Au Ra Fray reassures them that they have endured worse and will be fine. When Hyur Fray softly touches his horns, tears spill from their eyes as the simulacrum reacts to a deep-seated memory and lingering pain. They note this is not the first time they have felt such a touch and that, on some level, they always knew it. Instinctively, they tilt Au Ra Fray’s head to gently nuzzle their foreheads together, an intimate gesture they likely once longed to share with Sid while alive.

In the early hours of the night, the tavern is unusually brimming with loud chatter and various clatters. Sat at the table in front is a grim looking midlander, holding a bottle of liquor, but somehow still sober enough to look attentively as you step into the tavern, as if to judge which kind of trouble you just might be. Accompagning her, behind are 3 midlander triplets. Engaged in discussion and dinner before you barged in, they are already imagining the kind of entertainment that is about to unfold at your expense. In the back are the loudest bunch, all too busy parching their seemingly endless thirst, a cemetary of liquor bottles scattered all over the table almost being too small for all the ruckus they do.
