My contention is that in most any league, there are 1-2 coaches who make a huge positive difference, 1-2 who make a huge negative difference, and everyone else is net neutral.

It’s still possible to invest more — vinyl, concert tickets, etc. — but the biggest music nerd/expert and the most casual listener spend the same $10 bucks a month.

A thing I feel is also underadressed in the discussion is how people don’t make discrete investments in recordings anymore. Like a big part of being a critic was deciding if it was worth spending money on this album versus another or versus another form of entertainment.
