Of course, just 30 minutes after posting about the fact that there might be multiple groups of people who’ve suffered as a result of the fight over Palestine, with equally strong motivations… I’ve had some blocks. People will always struggle with reading history as a spectrum of human concerns.

One thing your series really brought home to me is how terrible it was for the residents of Palestine to suffer the upheaval of the 1940s at the same time as how understandable it was for European Jews to feel the need for a permanent home. A tragedy of clashing human urges. So terribly sad. 😕

Both could actually have been nipped in the bud by voting prior to reaching power. Obviously they weren’t, but it doesn’t alter the fact that the possibility was there, & still is.

I’d consider myself a left of centre ‘centrist’, & I disagree. I still support trans rights as much as I did 20 years ago, possibly more (I have more trans friends now, than then). I think party politicians are much more susceptible to weathervane politics than most grass-roots voters.

Absolutely that. The real 'silent majority' in this country are extremely tolerant on a range of issues and the British Attitude Survey demonstrates it. The angry noise created by Reform is certainly not reflective of the whole.
