I haven't been to NYC since before the pandemic but I would make IMMEDIATE plans to walk the length of Manhattan and sample all the new goat meat stands.
That's a picture from Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, in which Rachel Weisz did not appear.
Kind of awkward for Exclaim! to publish this story under a picture of Brendan Fraser co-starring with Maria Bello in Tomb of the Dragon Emperor because Rachel Weisz chose not to return for that one.
When he has time, he will also holler football smack talk at me across the street (we support rival teams). Again, being subjected to this verbal abuse is a highlight of my morning. The whole staff culture with the bus + crosswalk crew is pretty in-your-face, and the kids are safe as hell.
One of the highlights of my day is that the crossing guard who manages the intersection right by my kid's school is EXTREMELY aggressive and will curse out (w/o actually using curse words) any driver who strays one inch outside the rules. By week three, drop off is incredibly orderly.
And yes I know that James I was king when the Mayflower actually set sail, but (a) not better and (b) fleeing to the new world was just the culmination of the puritan separatist movement that had been gathering steam for a while
As a Mayflower descendent, I love explaining to people how my ancestors effectively got themselves kicked out of England by the government of Elizabeth I for being too intense about the protestant reformation and making the whole anti-Catholic vibe too weird for, again, Elizabeth I.
As a learning scientist, we're also pretty shaky on how humans learn.
Hard agree, though I want to carve out an exception for "Trump is visibly senile and being weekend-at-Bernie's-ed around by his inner circle" since his basic physical and mental fitness are actually pertinent.
Posting this at the moment of planetary equinox. We will now enter the darkness together. Here's looking forward to the next six months.
Store brand coffee beans now cost as much per pound as mildly snobby locally roasted beans that I only bought on sale did last year.
From interactions with faculty in my university's engineering school and others in the wider online learning space, every undergraduate CS/CE program I'm familiar with still has solidly over 2/3 male enrollment every year.
The crossing guard at my daughter's school is a huge fan of the Bills and of James Cook specifically, and one of the highlights of my week this time of year is him yelling his thoughts about the game across the road to me while he directs traffic during morning drop off.
This is also mine. I have exactly one retail app, for Dominos (don't judge me) and I want every other transaction to be as anonymous as a GOP politician soliciting gay hookups in an airport lounge bathroom. More anonymous, actually.
And that suggests that all those conservatives who are still filled with adolescent rage at being contradicted by a queer vegan that one time in 2011 are just... not able to change. There's no working through it because the only thing that can content them is for Those People to be silenced.
But what DOES scare me is that if I was just somehow naturally capable of listening and changing my perspective even as an idiot teenager, that suggests it's more an innate personality trait than something that is taught.
Even there I'm privileged! I'm huge and hairy and look like I ate a Proud Boy to gain his warrior power. Never would have crossed my mind that an argument would escalate in a way that would make me personally unsafe. I could have gone nuclear with no concern for the fallout, but didn't.
And somehow my dumb 18-year-old ass was able to do that! Sometimes it was a little bit embarrassing to be called out, definitely, and not everyone doing it was right or arguing in good faith. But it turns out when I stopped talking I actually fucking learned!
Like, I grew up about as privileged as it's possible to be (white, male, straight, cis, upper class), got to college, and was told in no uncertain terms that at certain times/during certain conversations it was my role to shut the fuck up and listen.
SO MANY conservative Millennials seem to have taken the experience of being told to shut the fuck up on Tumblr or to check their privilege in a freshman college seminar and turned that brief moment of anger and embarrassment into their entire personality 15-20 years later.
Kimmel: The kid who grew up in gun-worshiping far right MAGA culture and then shot a guy is an obvious product of gun-worshiping far right MAGA culture.

Trump Admin: Oh yeah, well WE'RE FUCKING MATT DAMON!!!
