Now that the local and national press have started to cover the Portland ICE area round-the-clock in reaction to the President, Antifa have devised a plan where they are encouraging one another to come in animal costumes.

The costumes serve the function of masking the violent extremism to make the direct action appear like a family-friendly gathering on camera, and to whitewash the past ultraviolence.

In 2019, Antifa devised a similar plot by giving out free "milkshakes" at a protest. But they couldn't contain their bloodthirst and nearly killed me when they saw me. In 2020, they mobilized a fake "Wall of Moms" where female Antifa supporters and members wore yellow shirts to act as human body shields while violent rioters behind them hurled projectile weapons.

Have you watched the "AI" boosting rant of (in)famous rock and roll economist Justin Wolfers (www.youtube.com/watch?v=oful...)

On top of making a very odd back of the envelope calculation to prove that "AI" is not in a bubble (not being an economist, who am I to judge), he uttered the following.

A different thing to say is markets are often pretty smart. Markets reflect the aggregated wisdom of lots of different people. All these whiz kids on Wall Street with their fancy suits and their computer models and so on. They're making big bets as if they believe there's a substantial chance that AI could be transformative. That's the whole sentence. That's all I want you to say. So next time someone struts around the schoolyard and says, "Oh, this it it still makes mistakes and it's not very good and it's not going to change my life." I'm just going to say a bunch of sophisticated people believe otherwise and at a minimum I think we should take them seriously.

Specifically, HELP Minority Staff asked ChatGP1 to analyze job descriptions catalogued by the federal government for the entire U.S. economy and predict tasks that could be performed by AI and automation. According to the ChatGPT-basec model, artificial intelligence and automation could replace nearly 100 million jobs over the next ten years, including 89% of fast food and counter workers, 64% of accountants and 47% of truck drivers.

In May, Dario Amodei, the CEO of the main competitor to OpenAI's ChatGPT, Anthropic. warned that Al could lead to the loss of half of all entry-level white-collar jobs, spiking unemployment to 10 to 20% in one to five years? In 2023, McKinsey estimated that Al technologies had "the potential to automate work activities that absorb 60 to 70% of employees' time today."* Last year, Elon Musk said that, as a result of Al and robotics, "probably none of us will have a job... If you want a job that's kind of like a hobby you can do a job. But otherwise. Al and robotics will provide any goods and services you want."

I recently have to bare a post layoffs all hand in my former (I left thereafter) company.
The C suite was like headless chickens uttering platitudes like "the most difficult decisions blahblah" and "we are going to be an 'AI' first company". I could see the fear in the CTO voice irt to "AI"

The funny thing is that the people working on this stuff don't even seem to believe their own bullshit. In a recent invite-only summit, employees from companies like OpenAI and Google DeepMind met to discuss the impact Al might have on the "social contract." They landed on a few consensus statements, one of which read: "The encroachment of Al systems and the erosion of the value of labor could lead to the increasing disempowerment of most humans, causing a degradation in individual well-being and purpose." One can only guess whether they needed an AI mediator to arrive at such an illuminatingly obvious statement. Regardless, it appears that the real consensus coalescing around these machines is that they'll end up reinforcing the feedback loop between an impotent civic culture and a tech- enhanced authoritarianism-defanging political discourse and selling it back to us as a SaaS offering that lets us feel like we're heard without actually giving us power. But hey, at least when ICE raids your neighborhood and beats you bloody, you'll be able to tell Al Uncle Sam how your experience was.
