I think Superman should be a strong contender here, not just because each sequel up got significantly less and less ambitious but because the original was designed to support an entire franchise and every subsequent film strayed farther away from that path, making the original retroactively worse

Es tontería pero probablemente sea inevitable: si vendes algo como un acontecimiento de gran relevancia, lo normal es que mucha gente espere sentirse interpelada por ese acontecimiento. Los suecos hacen bien en ignorar esa pulsión popular pero la reacción inicial les va en el sueldo
