Watching The House of Guinness. There’s a publican who appears to be in his way to a fancy dress party as a leprechaun. I’m not *absolutely* convinced this is an accurate representation of nineteenth century Dublin.

Chalky I could handle…. Though I should confess that my opinion is based on around 25 minutes of the first episode of the first series. I know perfectly decent human beings who tell me that it ISN’T a perfect distillation of our faithless, solipsistic, truth-deprived times.

I haven't read any Jilly Cooper novels, but I honour her for her elaboration of the Curtain Theory of British Social Class -- which divides society into the Haves and Have Nets.
