Being on SNAP in Texas was how I got into farming. SNAP gave me $70 a month in 2010. I started doing farm share at a 100 acre organic farm to supplement SNAP. I'd do 4 hours of work for a $40 CSA box at least once a week. I kinda never returned to normal life after that. It's all such a mess.

2lbs of pork for $5 = 3 meals for myself and 2 to share with friends.

Also a 10lbs bag of potatoes for another $5 means fries with every meal for the foreseeable future.

I wired early to have cars as a safe space, and escaped abuse by driving when I was old enough. It's still my safest place and I can drive 12+ hours like it's a trip to the gas station - the only catch is I have one CD on repeat for years. No exaggeration - years. 🤣
