Good morning, Glasgow. It's a misty start to the day, but with the leaves turning on the trees, it's still a day full of autumn-y goodness.

Love this little dragon on Robertson and Dobbie's 1908 Glasgow Style warehouse on the corner of Glassford Street and Wilson Street in Glasgow.

There is that, too. I suspect when they were planned, there was the assumption that Glasgow would continue expanding outward and would eventually incorporate them. Of course, that never actually happened.

Different designers, but buily ibt the same year, which may explain the similarities. 👍🙂

While such developments made it easier for those living in surrounding suburbs to access the centre of Glasgow by car, they did little for the communities through which they passed.

It also provided utilities such as electricity and gas, and in 1859, it created the first council-owned public water suppy in the UK in a a bid to improve the city's health through the provision of fresh, clean drinking water.

While officially created in 1890, the Glasgow Town Council was known as the Glasgow Corporation ever since the city was given its first Burgh Charter in 1175, some 850 years ago. By the late 1800s, the Glasgow Corporation had become a pioneer of Municipal Socialism.

Designed by C.J.McNair in an Art Deco style and built in 1939, the Ascot was considered a super-cinema as it had a capacity of 1,963 people. It closed as a cinema in 1975 and only the facade now remains.

The former Ascot Cinema (renamed in Gaumont in 1950), Anniesland, Glasgow. This is one of Glasgow's lost neighbourhood cinemas. There used to be so many of these local cinemas in Glasgow in the 1930s that it was nicknamed Cinema City.

The area at the centre was thicker and had ripples in it, and this created the bullseye effect. Such glass was traditionally cheaper than flat panes.

thisismyglasgow.bsky.social
This involved creating a hollow globe of glass that was then flattened and spun to give a circular sheet. The bits around the edge were the best quality and were cut to create flat panes.

Bullseye glass panels in a close door of the 1907 Anniesland Mansions in the West of Glasgow. Bullseye glass was traditionally made using the hand-blown Crown Glass technique.

Crow Road Tenement. Part of Anniesland Mansions in the West of the Glasgow, there's just something timelessly elegant about buildings like this.

It's one of a series of windows which depict traditional Highland life and its destruction during the Highland Clearances of the late 18th Century. The bullseye glass in the window at the back is a particularly nice detail.

Love this figurehead on a corbel of John Burnet Senior's 1870 Union Bank building on St Vincent Street in Glasgow. I particularly like her crown, which is reminiscent of a foliate Green Man.
