Really though, the best tool we’ve found for lightning trends is looking at the -10C level for 40dBz+

NASA SPoRT lightning stoplight tool is a great page to use to see how long it’s been since the last lightning flash/occurrence.

Think we’re on the same dock.

Yeah, I was working with Walworth Co Sheriff at Alpine that night and had a hard time showing any sort of confidence to what was going to happen. Not great having multiple runs of the HRRR showing dry conditions.

A new interactive REFS (RRFS Ensemble Forecast System) viewer is coming to an SPC site near you. Probably sometime in early 2026.

When lines of storms track east through FDL, velocity can look like it’s decreasing but it’s moving at a bad angle compared to our radar.

Total number of Day 3 Moderate Risks in the past 20 years for WI.

Main rain done at the draft. Maybe just some drizzle left. #nfldraft

From looking at things today, a lot of 0-3km shear but drops off above it. More unidirectional shear the further east. Fast moving band of storms in the evening in WI.

Monday is looking like an issue.

This is the first time that there has been a Day 5 30% risk in Wisconsin. Outlooks from Day 4-8 have only been issued since 2015.

This is the severe weather outlook for Monday. Nothing to get worried about yet - enjoy the NFL Draft this week - and then we can prepare for storms.
Severe Weather Outlook for Monday April 28.

All of Wisconsin is highlighted in a 15% risk (equivalent of a level 1/5). Far southwestern Wisconsin is highlighted in a 30% risk (equivalent of a level 3/5).

I’ve heard that from basically anyone within a county from the lake.

I’ll take that scenario for southern WI

Thanks Lisa! Doesn’t seem as though many local Mets came over here or have been active.

This is what happens when 18F goes away: beta.weather.gov has been deactivated, “due to the loss of critical federal staff, which leaves this project without the resources to continue its development or for routine monitoring and maintenance.”

Screenshot of beta.weather.gov with an announcement info box saying "beta.weather.gov has been deactivated until further notice." The message continues by mentioning "This page has been deactivated...due to the loss of critical federal staff, which leaves the project without the resources required to continue its development or for routine monitoring and maintenance."
