Please, just stop sending me AI videos of Dad. Stop believing I wanna see it or that I'll understand, I don't and I won't. If you're just trying to troll me, I've seen way worse, i'll restrict and move on. But please, if you've got any decency, just stop doing this to him and to me, to everyone even, full stop. It's dumb, it's a waste of time and energy, and believe me, it's NOT what he'd want.
To watch the legacies of real people be condensed down to 'this vaguely looks and sounds like them so that's enough,
, just so
other people can churn out horrible TikTok slop puppeteering them is maddening. You're not making art, you're making disgusting, over-processed hotdogs out of the lives of human beings, out of the history of art and music, and then shoving them down someone else's throat hoping they'll give you a little thumbs up and like it.
Gross. And for the love of EVERYTHING, stop calling it 'the future. Al is just badly recycling and regurgitating the past to be reconsumed. You are taking in the Human Centipede of content, and from the very very end of the line, all while the folks at the front laugh and laugh, consume and consume.

Steve Magness also has some great videos on this. Super practical advice, and usually preceded by 15 minutes of context and physiology that even those of us without a sports science or coaching background can follow.

This is really one of those two red button meme situations where I want to be annoyed at both right wing grifters and a traffic violation system that prioritizes profit over safety

Intensely jealous to have missed these shows, but also grateful and reassured that they happened.

On Sunday, #Zürich residents voted 52.8% in favor of increasing parking fees for cars according to weight.

The owner of a BMW X2 (Diesel), which weighs 1,675 kilograms, will now pay equivalent of €717 Euros per year to park on a public street. (Before, about €321.)

Direct democracy!

Sweet relief, two months on. No thanks to the absentee landlord we tracked down six weeks ago who swore it wasn't coming from his house.

A fire alarm has been chirping once a minute for over a week somewhere along my back lane. At this point it feels like we'll just have to wait it out and hope the battery's dead by the time we open windows again in the spring 😑

One of those "yes it could be worse, but still" situations

Exactly, how much did the RCMP cost per person last year? Why are they not making a profit? Or the Canadian military, stop talking about the Canada Post as a for profit entity, it is a national service. Also let it expand into banking and financial services (as a co-op) and other sectors (grocery?)

Canada Post “lost” 1 billion dollars last year?

How about, “it cost Canadians 1 billion dollars to have a national postal service” which works out to costing about $25 a year per person (population of Canada in 2024 = 40 million). Seems like a pretty reasonable cost to me.

"Canada Post is on track to lose money" Hum. Duh. It cost less than a toonie to send a letter across Canada.

"Canada Post is a service and not a business" was common knowledge until late stage capitalism brain rotted most people into think if it ain't making money for shareholders, it's failing.

“It makes me nervous when people stand right by the edge on a busy road"

This feels like some pretty egregious victim blaming from Janice Lukes.

Whenever a pedestrian is killed it's immediately "were they jaywalking?" No? Well maybe they shouldn't have been standing there, at the bus stop.

Shoutout to the guy at the farmers' market a street over playing The Hip covers while I work late.

It's literally only newsworthy because it validates our fears of people in the suburbs being victimized by people in the North End (which gets a weird and unnecessary callout here)

Maybe the lesson should instead be that wealthy people shouldn't sit on vacant property in a housing crisis?

i have to say, as a trans journalist who has covered the "trans debate" for about a decade now, there is no daylight between how the trump administration and conservatives lie about tylenol and autism and how they've lied about youth trans care.

I know three things about Harry Styles:

1. He sings Watermelon Sugar
2. He's a fan of Haruomi Hosono
3. He's now run a sub 3 marathon

Based on these facts, one can only respect the man

Public comms on vaccine availability in #Manitoba is definitely lacking this year, but appointments in various pharmacy online platforms are starting to pop up. Some out there for shoppers, too.

Despite no communication about this from public health, Sobeys Transcona has Covid/Flu appointments available as early as Oct. 6th. They’re actually expect the shipment this week and will add earlier appointments when they receive it.

On this very rainy weekend in Winnipeg, I’m thinking about how great it would be for our storm sewers, cyclists and pedestrians if we had bioswales throughout the city to absorb the water.

Watatatow.

AI is bad for a lot of reasons, but what's currently annoying me is how bad it's made the internet for research. Want a summary of the most basic common knowledge on a topic? Great! Want anything more? You'll have to wade knee deep in swill before giving up and paying for access or opening a book.

Respectfully disagree: 1) in fact it is unusual for a democracy w/ this level of GDP to turn authoritarian & so quickly; 2) the weakness of both institutions (congress & courts) and individuals (Schumer etc) is shocking. Would take less than 10 people in congress or 2 SC justices to stop all this.

What America is going through is not unusual in historical terms. Plenty of examples like it today elsewhere in the world.
What makes it unusual is the rapid collapse from a set of widely espoused norms and values that centered on liberty. It is the sacking of the shining city on hill that shocks.

Defined loosely enough that protests against genocide could be restricted, but antivax protests are fine (which the Freep uses as an example regardless)
