Six months ago this morning, I was out with my kids, on the way to the park. I knew the collection of police vehicles along Wellington Cres signaled tragedy on a dangerous stretch of road, but my heart sank when I saw Rob Jenner’s mangled bike laying alongside a stretch we traveled regularly.

the memories of a generation lost because of Reagan's homophobia will not be erased

i think we should do something in DC that would make david wojnarowicz proud tbh

If you’re outraged at the danger on our roads, come make a plan for how we’ll change them.

Why is the Freep's first reporting on this important exhibit framed almost entirely through the negative lens of Zionist organizations? Palestinians have been advocating for 10 years for an exhibit like this. It's a triumph, and should be reported that way.

Look, I think the German Canadian community had enough sense not to demand equal time for the plight of displaced persons in the wake of the Second World War as context for the Holocaust exhibit, we can maybe take a page from that playbook and shit up about this one.

25 seconds?

I think the delay in implementing pedestrian leading walk lights on some intersections, and having doing so on others is dangerous too - they need to standardize this.

as a driver I don't like this intersection and would be super down for it to not even be an option for me.

Thankful this week for those many queer people who came before me, people whose voices — quiet, loud, loving, angry — have taught me so much about how to live my values in this era.

Here’s the spot where Rosalie was hit by a driver last week, at around the same time of day. Note the lack of pedestrian lead, and how short that pedestrian signal is. Also how broad this intersection is to cross.

There is a group of us working on changing that in Calgary. We just did our 4th Kidical Mass ride last weekend. We're breaking for a few months for winter, but stay tuned to social media (@letsbikethereyyc) for details on how you can get out there with kids & friends: linktr.ee/kidicalmassyyc

Kidical Mass is a worldwide movement that aims to give youth the ability to travel safely and independently on bicycles in their cities.

There's a persistent reflex to assume that projects like this are liberally coded, only popular in progressive enclaves. But the actual evidence goes the other way. Liberals aren't the only ones who like to cross the street safely. Conservatives also ride bikes and like to do so without dying.

After getting over the initial facepalm of “yet another carbrained decision by Winnipeg’s elected leaders”, you can just peel back more and more layers and end up becoming disgusted with the modus operandi of Gillingham and the appointed members

Gave $1000 to the Gillingham campaign and maxed out his contribution to Evan Duncan’s campaign, by the way.

To all those "but the Kenaston expansion includes bike lanes" people... The city is very excited about making cars a requirement to enjoy a Big Mac.

Winnipeg governance is principally an exercise in making commitments to build a better city and then coming up with justifications to break those commitments at every turn.
“We recognize that development in mature communities like this is difficult and when doing so, should consider pedestrian orientation - but: lol, lmao, who cares, it’s surface lots anyway and the only developments we will approve are car-oriented ones. Fuck em.”

3,000 planned residential units planned within walking distance as part of Naawi-Oodena, on top of the existing multifamily residential along Kenaston between Taylor and Corydon and no one will be able to walk to get served at the McDonald's nearby.

Nothing could better illustrate the total afterthought nature of the “bike infrastructure” path along the planned widening of Kenaston, btw
