Six months ago this morning, I was out with my kids, on the way to the park. I knew the collection of police vehicles along Wellington Cres signaled tragedy on a dangerous stretch of road, but my heart sank when I saw Rob Jenner’s mangled bike laying alongside a stretch we traveled regularly.

I mean the bigger troll would be to give it to Obama again, since that’s what this is all about.

Watching the way the Trump administration is using criminalization as a weapon ought to make clear how criminalization works even in normal times.

ICE is not only chasing down every random brown person in Chicago, they have a cameraman following them to film this for social media. Cruelty and inhumanity as content.

From my new piece on Trump as the pre-WW2 world trying to claw its way out of its very fresh grave:

Bummer! But that’s a great way to see a silver lining. Or maybe a set of silver rims…

Speed safety cameras are astonishingly successful. We know the tools that reduce traffic violence. Legalize them.

Got to use some of these in Europe this summer and honestly it’s the best thing ever, obviously transformative for the neighbourhoods graced with their presence. Canadian cities need to catch up, would be nice if we didn’t let Vancouver do all the leading.

Amazingly, our Vancouver visit has coincided with the construction of Canada’s very first Dutch-inspired fietsstraat (“bicycle street”).

Burnaby’s Frances-Union Bikeway is currently getting an all ages and abilities upgrade that treats cyclists as the main users of the corridor, and cars as guests.

Fascist fucks too racist for the goddamn Manitoba PCs are running in council byelections these days, and promising to get rid of school zones. I just want some relief, give me Don Woodstock vs the guy with the beard again.

My expectation is Carney will crush the false tooth provided to him by Dr. Yueh and fill the room with poison. He may not get Trump, but the momentary power vacuum and overreaction of his subordinates will provide an important part of the narrow path to victory.
mjmbca.bsky.social
There’s always this notion in certain circles that Carney’s job is to stick it to Trump on live television, and that anything short of that is elbows down, or whatever.

We’re always going to be let down by these talks if those are our expectations.

If the Times weren’t a shameful outfit bent on manufacturing consent for the administration, it could have asked “how could the government say someone who has risen to lead the public school system of a large American city should be removed from the country?”, a query with more illuminating answers.

"How could someone the government says should be removed from the country have risen to lead the public school system of a large American city?"

That's a framing for a newspaper that's just one step away from being state media. Is that what the @nytimes.com wants?

eventually politicians need to start advocating for criminal and civil penalties for people involved in fabricating stories to get citizens incarcerated.

or, put another way: a society that would like to keep functioning has to discourage baldfaced lying, especially by authorities

will just repeat that if you straight up replaced the current Canada Council grants system with this it would fund about 1000 more artists per year for the same amount of money and immeasurably greater stability

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."
