There’s a landscaping company near my house that was all-in on Trump during the election. And now, where their MAGA flags once hung, are signs that read: “Help Wanted: Hiring Landscapers.” Kinda feels like selling out your workforce to fascists might be bad for business or something

The #Astros decided to trigger some snowflakes today, good for them
They are trying to scare people into not attending. They don’t want a big turnout b/c they know the numbers matter. Don’t let them win. Show up and be counted
🚨🚨Gov Abbott announced deployment of the Texas National Guard ahead of “No Kings” protests in Austin, Texas.

The fascist governor claimed the protest has links to antifa.

the year is 2030. a doctor solemnly informs you that you have plastic in your testicles bc millions of people persuaded by celebrity marketing bought synthetic pubic hairs that were eventually consumed by fish that you ate
The Daily Beast writes: "Kim Kardashian's brand SKIMS has sold out its synthetic pubic hair thongs and is now accumulating a waitlist for the product." Their tweet is accompanied by a link to a post with the story.

Gonna have to put up one of those signs like they do when someone hits a deer
It is! Bought it at an event at Brazos Bookstore with @mattlanza.bsky.social speaking about the 1900 storm, and with the author there to sign copies. I’ve become a little obsessed with the storm history over the past year, so it was a cool event to attend
Finished this last week while on vacation. A fictionalized account of the only children from the orphanage on Galveston Island to survive the 1900 storm. Well-written and moving, grim but uplifting. #RootRootRead

NO KINGS - HOUSTON PROTEST
Saturday, October 18
2-6pm
Houston City Hall
901 Bagby
I’ve tried to ride the bus to protests but freakin Metro park and ride doesn’t operate on the weekend. Someone bus my ass to the yelling march pleaz
Ron Johnson on the No Kings protest: "One of the things I hope Kash Patel and Pam Bondi are looking into is the funding of these groups. Who pays for the busses to bus a lot of these folks in?"

I was probably going anyway, but now I absolutely have to
Johnson: "We call it the Hate America Rally that will happen Saturday. Let's see who shows up for that. I bet you you'll see Hamas supporters, I bet you'll see antifa types, I bet you'll see Marxists on full display, people who don't want to stand and defend the foundational truths of this republic"
And as a white male, I can tell everyone that there is always something going on behind the scenes. Racist, sexist, shitty, insidious behavior is always lurking in the background

I hate the fact that white dudes will just randomly drop a racist joke or n-bomb around me and assume that because I’m also white I’m cool with it. Had to call out a coworker once. Embarrassed his ass with a “be better” response which has become my go-to
People love to lie to themselves and say there were times in this country when people weren’t shitty and like, no. There have just been times when it’s slightly more hidden. And I’m very loose with the word “slightly.” You never had to look hard to find it and often it’s just thrown in your face
Fantastic. Happy late birthday!

one response to this (correct) observation is to say “well, the cops will attack you no matter how you dress and behave.” that’s right. images of cops and ICE beating grandmas and kids in inflatable frog costumes is a win for the opposition.
one of the reasons they're so mad at "no kings" is that they thought they were going to get a different kind of protest. they *want* the black bloc to be out there fighting with the cops. those are the images they've been trying to generate from "go." instead--

MAGA Rage at “No Kings” Boils Over—and It Quickly Backfires on Trump
As Trump allies smear the coming protests, a good writer on MAGA skewers the absurdity of these attacks on large swaths of Americans—and explains why our best recourse will be to turn out in force.
