I think we can just agree on some things but disagree on others.

I agree with you that the MCU and DCU should aim to create better movies with better stories for their audience moving forward. The rest of this I think we can leave here, I enjoyed the conversation but I don’t agree with your points.

If you have seen the modern films and have not seen any that could have a positive effect on people or the potential for them to improve, then fair enough.

I would suggest watching Black Panther: Wakanda Forever or Thunderbolts but the reason I want a reboot is because I believe they can be better.

I really liked Andor and would genuinely like to see the Star Wars franchise focus on producing shows and movies which tell stories that way moving forward.

The idea of building a franchise around what people from all over a universe do to fight oppression and whether they succeed or fail at it.

There is absolutely an argument to be made that I am naive compared to you on all films. We don’t know the amount either of us has watched and I don’t care to engage with you on that matter.

I am just suggesting you are naive on a genre of film that you are not a fan of. Is that harsh to suggest?

This is a pointless exercise because you are not a fan of the genre.

So any films I would argue the merit of would fall into ‘I didn’t get that from the movie because the fighting scenes took me out of the message you believe was being made there.’

Also, no superhero movie shaped who I am either.

I think reality television does have a chokehold over television. You just may not watch all of it but your issues with the people who play with toys and isolate themselves are in contrast to the elitism and misogyny of Love Island, Married At First Sight, Made In Chelsea, Ex On The Beach, etc.

I don’t think Oppenheimer is a high-brow movie, I just think there is a reason Marvel Movies are billion dollar summer blockbusters and Oppenheimer is winning Oscars.

They are two different forms of cinema. It’s like watching stand up comedy or going to the West End. Nothing wrong with either.

My issue with what you have said is ‘If it doesn’t elevate me as a person, then it is basically just MAGA.’ Which, no offence, is just mental to me. I feel like you missed a few steps, or staircases, with that one.

This is the thing though, I don’t believe I fit into either category you have described here. It isn’t black and white like you make it seem.

I don’t consider it mindless bullshit but it has not shaped my worldview either. The franchise is comfortably capitalist and not either socialist or fascist.

My point is there can be superhero movies and shows that will be viewed as thoughtful and intellectual by people, if you don’t like it that is absolutely fine.

Lumping it all in one category as ‘incel movies’ makes you seem naive to the quality of previous works and the potential for future movies.

I am happily married with two kids and I would count myself as a LFC, AEW and MCU fan.

Like you said, watching the latest MCU film or show is comparable to watching The Traitors. Don’t yuk someone else’s yum is a good saying.

No, I suggested the right wing culture of ‘Foreigners and anything different to me is something weird that I should be afraid of and hate’ is not down to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. You took that as ‘It promotes left wing ideology and we will all become communists if we binge the whole franchise’

So your issue isn’t about them not promoting left wing values, it is that you are not personally entertained by summer blockbuster action movies?

This thread of mine was about recasting actors, I made no mention of how educational and socialist this franchise is. We can agree the comics are better.

This is just an opinion though, that what is popular in the cinema reinforces what occurs in society (even if they are opposed to each other) and I am not against the idea that a rebooted Marvel Cinematic Universe should be improved because they have a responsibility to provide positive messages.

Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola are two of the very best film makers of all time but I still view their opinions as similar to people having issues with science fiction replacing westerns in the cinema.

The very best modern directors can still make Oppenheimer, Nomadland, Parasite, etc.

There is an argument to be made about superheroes blighting cinema.

If studios are not working on making a superhero franchise, then they are not interested in making billions for their investors.

I would argue this is just a natural evolution from Westerns, to Science Fiction to Superhero movies.

Secondly, there is no need to ban these types of movies. You are not forced to watch them.

At some point, you have actively engaged with them to form an opinion that they are worthless and have reengaged with them now to share your opinion that they should be banned.

Hahaha, I find it entertaining that in your world you expect every movie to ‘guide people towards left politics’ otherwise it should be banned.

Firstly, escapism is a legitimate reason for any form of entertainment to exist. Should we ban football if they don’t promote socialist values every game?

No one watches a Marvel film and leaves thinking ‘After watching corrupt organisations try to take over the world, some with clear links to the nazis, I now believe the LGBTQ+ and asylum seekers are the ones to blame for everything that is wrong in the world.’
