🔥October is Prevention Month. Home heating is on the rise as cooler temperatures set into the Truckee Meadows.
🚒Check your cords: Don't overload them
🚒Use heat sources safely: Keep flammable items at least 3 feet away from heat sources
🚒Do not use your oven to heat your home
⚠️We’ve had several calls this week about what looks like a fire near the geothermal plant in south Reno in the evenings. Rest assured, it’s just lighting reflecting off steam, creating the illusion of flames. There’s no active fire. Remember, if you ever do see flames, call 911.

🚒Get out, stay out, and call for help.
Not all fire extinguishers are the same! Different fires need different tools — and knowing which extinguisher to use can make all the difference.

Check out this quick guide to the types of fire extinguishers and what they’re designed for.
🚒🚁 Teamwork saves lives. Today, TMFR partnered with Care Flight for a joint training exercise focused on improving emergency response and coordination. Thank you @KOLO8 for the report. Details:http://bit.ly/3IOOp6x

We made great progress in reducing our community’s wildfire risk processing more than 350 loads of green waste this weekend.

We’re not done yet — more Green Waste Collection Days are coming this weekend at Silver Lake, Red Rock, and Verdi. Details: bit.ly/4nLcZEC

Lithium-ion batteries store a lot of energy in a small space. These batteries can overheat, start a fire, or explode if overcharged or damaged. Charge your device on a hard surface. Don't overcharge your device. Unplug it or remove the battery when it's fully charged.
🍂 This weekend, bring your dry and dead vegetation to our designated locations and help protect our neighborhoods. Creating defensible space is one of the easiest ways to reduce wildfire risk - one load at a time! Details: bit.ly/4nLcZEC
⚠️Never throw away lithium-ion batteries in household trash or recycling bins because they can cause dangerous fires. Instead, they must be recycled at designated collection points. Call2Recycle.org is an excellent resource to find recycling locations.
Our firefighters had a blast visiting the little #FutureFirefighters at Discovery Preschool in Spanish Springs! From high fives to fire truck smiles, these kids reminded us what community is all about — curiosity, laughter, and big dreams! ❤️🚒👨‍🚒
