Donald Trump announces his a "trade deal" with Vietnam, which increases taxes on American consumers while decreasing taxes on Vietnamese consumers.

The zero-rate tariff offer in Vietnam was proposed on April 4. He's essentially done nothing in 3 months.

A true genius at work. The art of the deal.

I just made a Trade Deal with Vietnam. Details to follow!
Jul 02, 2025, 10:25 AM

It is my Great Honor to announce that I have just made a Trade Deal with the Socialist Republic of Vietnam after speaking with To Lam, the Highly Respected General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam. It will be a Great Deal of Cooperation between our two Countries. The Terms are that Vietnam will pay the United States a 20% Tariff on any and all goods sent into our Territory, and a 40% Tariff on any Transshipping. In return, Vietnam will do something that they have never done before, give the United States of America TOTAL ACCESS to their Markets for Trade. In other words, they will “OPEN THEIR MARKET TO THE UNITED STATES,” meaning that, we will be able to sell our product into Vietnam at ZERO Tariff. It is my opinion that the SUV or, as it is sometimes referred to, Large Engine Vehicle, which does so well in the United States, will be a wonderful addition to the various product lines within Vietnam. Dealing with General Secretary To Lam, which I did personally, was an absolute pleasure. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

I had to log into DrC's gmail account to get an auth code for our bank account today. He has 11K unread messages. I can not express how much this makes me want to scream.

I wish he just had a porn habit like a normal husband.

Squeezing profit out of an underfunded healthcare system is like shoving the ambulance over the cliff. This neoliberal economic model has resulted in higher costs and worse health outcomes everywhere it has been tried. Listen to the experts debate it here:

The Privatisation of Public Health

The Coalition Government recently introduced the Healthy Futures (Pae Ora) Amendment Bill - to enshrine targets for delivery of health services in legislation.

Government intends to achieve measurements of health system performance and productivity through this legislative mechanism, ignoring the complexity of the health system, the chronic problems of underfunding, demography and the social stresses which are impacting on hospitals.

New funding to deal with long waiting lists is likely to go to the private sector through extension of contracting out of services from three to ten years. The proposed ten year contracts have prompted a number of senior medical professionals, academics and economists to write an open letter to the Auditor General.

They expressed concerns about the transfer of money and the likely exodus of public health workers to the private sector as well as the detrimental impact on training for future healthcare workers. They also cited concerns about equitable access to care.

To discuss these issues we have invited:

Ian Powell, the former Exec Director of the Association of Salaried Medical Specialists and now a commentator on health in the media and on his blog, Otaihanga Second Opinion.

and

Ganesh R Ahirao (aka Nana), a signatory to the letter to the Auditor General. He is an economist and was former Chair of the Productivity Commission. He is currently a board member for Action Station, Kaibosh Food Rescue and the Drug Foundation.

Date: Tuesday 14 October

Time: 5.30 – 7pm

Place: level 2, 57 Willis Street (via the lifts out the back of Unity Books).

TBF, it appears they only get half a Jared Leto in every movie so you kinda have to go to more than one.

Okay, that's a hell of a slogan:

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

I've run the maths on these XP Celebration timed research tasks, and you would have to be an unemployed marathon runner with a 1000 friends to get all the way through all 50 and even then, pretty sure you couldn't because of the gifting limit. Don't advertise a goal people can't achieve. It's rude.
