I know a fair few fans think the same of Foreign Affairs - for me the noir scenery of it all as a soundtrack to an imaginary black and white movie really works.

But having listened to Blue Valentine tonight, I've got four contenders for my Top 30 so it's already gone up in my estimation.

While this is the only U2 album I've ever taken to (so far), I'm more than willing to bow down at Bono's feet for the title track, which gets better with every single listen.

Inevitably, some will resonate more strongly than others, and Blue Valentine is near the bottom of the pile from first listens.

Got a couple hours to myself tonight while Lisa and her eldest are at the cinema, but made a Katsu dish with Quorn, crispy mushrooms, and chilli marinated veggies - everyone was happy so I think I've earned a couple of hours of record playing 🎶🔊

This is my problem - I know lots but then when I try to list them, my mind goes blank.

So every time I listen to a song with strings, I'm trying to make a note of it and hopefully come February that will stand me in good stead! 😂

A prominent example of the free jazz style of the late 60s, The Creator Has A Masterplan (32 of the 38 minutes on show here) is certainly one of my favourite jazz pieces.

I still have an awful lot to discover, but Sanders is proving to be a veritable favourite of mine.

'In The Court Of The Crimson King' was released #OnThisDay in 1969.

A milestone record for prog rock, King Crimson laid bare their ambition from the get-go. Opener 21st Century Schizoid Man merges rock, jazz, and classical music - euphoric and emphatic in equal measure.

Pure sonic joy.

It took me far, far, far too long to get into Liz Fraser & Co., but it was more than worth the wait.

Ethereal gems are ten a penny with those guys, but this cut from Treasure is by far and away my favourite CT song of all.

Slowly but surely - the odd song here and there. She definitely has a liking for the slower ballads (Tom Traubert, On The Nickel etc). We have a six hour drive to Cornwall next week and it is for my birthday so I'll be able to add a song of his or seven to the playlist on the way down 😁

Amazingly, Lisa is really tolerating Tom Waits, and even enjoying some of his work (albeit she loves Singapore because it makes her laugh).

Other than that, there's shared love of Blue Nile, David Sylvian, Tears For Fears, but she can't stand Suede, Wolf Alice, and especially Sonic Youth!
