🧵 A chance comment in a post has led me down a rabbit warren of Interactive Fiction memories, floppy diskettes, and apps on modern devices.

So this is going to be an ongoing thread about text adventure games, such as these “Lost Treasures of Infocom”.

⚔️ Completely unable to find a pathway to progress the quest in this “Gothic Remake” demo, I joined the community forums on Discord, and found a speedrun video that gave me a clue.

Would not have clocked I need to mantle a particular bit of cliff so I can clamber up some steps 🙄

One of the paths I explored a few times has this bit of cliff wall that is climbable, rather to my surprise. What a ridiculous place to put this stuff behind.

Up there has an area I had not explored before.

Then there are some more steps to clamber up.

And now we have somewhere new to explore.

⚔️ Having a rumble around in the “Gothic Remake” demo, remembering things about old camp, Diego, etc.

Struggling to figure out the controls (how do I unequi?) and cannot find my way into the valley (just running back and forth, back and forth).

Also got battered in combat!

☎️ I have had many a long conversation with a friend at work about these games. Never played myself but he definitely sold me on the genre, which seems to appeal directly to my personality profile 🤓

I kinda know what you mean - I struggle to even do ‘reviews’ on the reading tracking apps, never mind anything more formal like a tellybox show. So I reckon you’re already quite far advanced along this path 👍

⬆️ Okay, workaround found because I want my file!

1️⃣ Split View Safari and Files app side-by-side.
2️⃣ Navigate Files to the folder you want to deposit the file.
3️⃣ Tap the Safari ⬇️ button to view the list of downloads.
4️⃣ (Long press) Drag the file from the Safari Downloads menu to Files app.

Can’t get the provider service to 📧 the file without creating a 🤬 account either.

Argh!!!!!!

Why are Safari downloads not showing in files on my iPad after iPadOS 18.5 update?
I upgraded my iPad to 18.5, but now on the Suno.com website, downloads no longer work (they did on 18.4) in the Safari web browser. The download starts and completes but the downloads folder doesn’t show the downloaded file, but Safari does show the downloaded files when using the downloads-icon.

😠 I’m fairly technically minded, but it’s infuriating AF when things get made harder over time. I am looping around areas within Files trying to locate this thing - long pressing, tapping … menus, etc.

It’ll probably be somewhere I haven’t thought to look yet, but I’m irritated with this right now.

📲 I swear this used to be easier on iOS17 but I am absolutely buggered if I can find a file in my Safari downloads.

It’s right there in the menu, opens in iBooks, but can I find the actual file to move around manually myself? Can I 🤬😤

Absolutely convinced I used to do this routinely before. Gahh 🤦‍♂️

Oh yes, long time 🏍️ viewer since around 2000 when I got my mittens on an OnDigital box and gained access to Eurosport for the first time.

I have watched BSB, WSBK and MotoGP ever since, plus a bit of F1 (highlights).

This WSBK replay instance cut just as we were expecting to see something happen 😅

🏍️ Blimey, RAZ gets a good initial getaway but doesn’t maintain it on the run down to T1, loses several places in the first few corners, then quickly slices through the small pack ahead of him and immediately pulls a gap.

Just remarkable.

🏍️ Watching #EstorilWorldSBK race 1 and the 📺 director cuts to a pair of same corner overtake replays just as RAZ is lining BUL up for an audacious overtake.

We cut away from the live action for several seconds, not knowing what happened! Argh! 🫣 Bum timing there, sir/madam 🥹

📖 I’m about halfway through ”We Are The Dead” and I’m having a splendid time - explosive, harrowing, tense scenes aplenty.

As I’m sat reading I abruptly recalled that @dominishbooks.bsky.social had included this in his “Favourite Decade: The 2010s” list on #BookTube.
