Whelp, once again I am compelled to take direct action to cause material harm to fascism.

This unfortunately means starting this week I have to reduce video production down to merely the livestreams on Sundays.

Cameras are usually fine if connecting over wifi or USB, but without specific device/system information it'd be impossible to say something works.

I Livestream on Linux. The overwhelming majority of drivers are built into most distros, but if you have an internal capture card you may run into problems.

I can assure you in both cases that Linux works *ok*, though depending on what you're pirating you may or may not be able to get it to run

~50% of windows programs work fine with an unmodified compatibility layers. IME only about 10% will never work at all.

Save location is...very dev dependent.

Your impression of linux is correct. You would have to know (some) things about the computer.

However, I would argue some linux devices, like the steam deck, offer the button press experience, though such devices are usually confined to specific uses (like gaming).

I only use windows for work but I have also noticed a lot of weird hanging on win11.

Especially when trying to switch between desktops.

Tiling (which windows desperately needed) is also broken for a lot of apps.

Idk, we had all these win11 ready minis and they don't feel that ready.

Looking at the steam forums for this game it's a poor implementation of ACE (anticheat expert).

Apparently works ok on steam deck, but the implementation is terminating non-steam deck Linux instances of the game.

This kind of shit is fairly common, but really depends on the dev.

Tbh I think most users don't even futz with that level of fine control.

But yeah, you're not wrong. I can get that level of control now through a launcher but to my knowledge there isn't some meta-app that overrides game settings regardless of launch.

Unless there's one in the AUR.

Yeah it probably would be unless you're prepared to edit wine prefixes (all through GUI now anyway).

As far as I know there isn't a single app solution to settings override, except maybe in PoL.

Idk I only ever use bespoke hardware profiles for video transcoding and compute for whisper models.

I'm sure MS will eventually start offering some version of the OS for people who actually need to use a computer.

Are they doing the subscription model yet for the windows OS in the consumer space or is that not yet a thing?

I could easily see some "pro" subscription level that is a real OS.

I have to do teams meetings all the time. Nobody fucking likes virtual meetings.

In organizer training for DSA I was literally told "if you do a virtual meeting keep it less than 60 minutes. Any longer and all anyone is doing is waiting for the meeting to end."

I run fedora on some stable PC's at home but at work we have an RHEL 2 legacy system that has some absurd uptime.

Where most people get stuck is the popularity of some multiplayer titles that have intrusive DRM/anticheat.

IDK, I enjoy gaming on Linux better, mostly because the system doesn't immediately try to undo any performance changes I make or waste resources on spyware, but it is more involved.
