Whelp, once again I am compelled to take direct action to cause material harm to fascism.

This unfortunately means starting this week I have to reduce video production down to merely the livestreams on Sundays.

Remember the road to worker liberation is long, but when we fight we win.

Also like, isn't Microsoft enabling a genocide? I seem to remember reading that somewhere.

For most users, yeah, switching to windows 11 is what they'll do, but some of the claims in this article read as little more than marketing copy.

Simply saying windows is secure but providing no examples of why is not very compelling.

Eh, an interesting read and all but 2 critical issues are being downplayed:

1. Windows continues to lag behind in UI features compared to most modern OS environments.

2. Windows gaming is forever kneecapped by system overhead from all the telemetry acquisition.

Yeah it's so fucking funny. I've been using amd for decades because of price but amd's own drivers are total ass. It was amazing when I switched to Linux and started using mesa.

YouTube finally added the feature it should have had 6 years ago and I can now make shorts from Livestreams.

Behold my toxic inability to let relationships go.

Yeah.

I hate to hand it to the company that ruined PC gaming with their unreasonable drm but Valve's contributions to wine and their own fork, proton, really sped up development of Linux gaming.
turblescelbor.bsky.social
resolve the crashes.

After like, wine 9, it's pretty much been plug and play for about 50-60% of programs I try.

Still gotta futz with about 40% of them but way better than it used to be.
turblescelbor.bsky.social
sometime around 2020 everyone was stuck inside and wine got way fucking better.

I've been on linux only since like...2012, and while I could get shit like hearthstone to run pre-2020, it just took a lot more.

Like FR I'd just launch, check the crash logs, and pick through libraries until I could

Yo, is Peter Jung on here?

My man is maintaining the protonvpn gtk app, and it's fucking great. Better than the android client for protonvpn, even if it's just a cool wireguard interface or whatever.

My dude, you're doing the lord's work.
turblescelbor.bsky.social
yeah the days of "let me try 50 wine configurations, one of these fuckers will work" are getting increasingly distant.
turblescelbor.bsky.social
I've certainly seen some ungracious responses from people related to the suggestion they should abandon windows in favor of Linux.

IDK, lots of people talk a big game about wanting to not be under the boot of corporations but balk at any alternative to the big 3 consumer tech giants.

Which version of txt rendering though?

the unix renderer? the windows 95 one? The windows 98 one?

my txt spreadsheets are on the struggle bus.

Is this not how normal people use online accounts?
turblescelbor.bsky.social
Is that how most people set up their online identities these days?

My laptop accounts are all bullshit and my online ID is split between 3 identities.

I've been hacked before but all they got was a Yahoo account full of porn and no connection to anything else except a defunct steam account.

Yeah, and without any of the guardrails that most Linux distros have to protect the kernel and various userspace applications.

I can donk a kernel in Linux no problem but I'd have to work at it. Not so sure the same can be said for windows.
turblescelbor.bsky.social
Man what is it with water bills?

I've had good luck with just using browser extensions on Firefox and gnome's PDF viewer but with JS extensions it's always fucking hit or miss. I thought the point of PDF was that it was a portable format.
turblescelbor.bsky.social
If people are fucking with PowerShell, they might as well start using Linux because at least with Linux after you change a bunch of things in terminal they aren't immediately undone by your OS without your consent.
turblescelbor.bsky.social
If memory serves it was very chaotic but it was a kind of dancing bear situation. Cool to see.

Having switched to free software some time ago. I'm disappointed that my insane Linux contributor friend was right.

I use Linux at home but win11 in business, it's shocking how much a difference the decades of enshittification make.

On windows I'm always far from the system.

I remember in the CS:S days that cheats could be a serious problem, but well modded servers usually dealt with it.

The best was cheats allowed servers where people would just try weird cheats to see what would happen.
turblescelbor.bsky.social
Finally getting around to just setting up a wireguard connection for this laptop and like always I try side-by-side wiki instructions with an LLM.

LLM wanted me to download packages that don't exist (nice). And although the structure of the commands was correct, model confuses wg with wget.

I've been playing a few EA games recently on arch where anti-cheat isn't too onerous (so games 8+ years old using userspace anticheats) and there isn't rampant cheating in multiplayer.

IDK I love the BF series, but not enough to even try a workaround like a VM to get past kernelspace anticheat.
turblescelbor.bsky.social
Yeah that limit fucks up many posts people bridge from fedi.
turblescelbor.bsky.social
Nah. They want to sell that sweet sweet data and only having access to the userspace means less data.

Or god forbid you could spoof data to remain anonymous.

It's like how Roblox blocks users trying to play in a VM, it's to "prevent cheating" but they have an economic incentive to acquire data.
turblescelbor.bsky.social
Yeah, it's not as straightforward as it is in windows.

If Linux desktop market share hits about 15% you'll probably see stuff that has Mac ports now also get Linux ports.

Unless CSP open sources their code it's probably going to be a while before it'll run without a compatibility layer.
