Legislation is still the same… I wish the advertising regs would change 🥲
Not sure what the second one is about?
turini2.bsky.social
In terms of old ones, the legislation has no teeth and legal teams are overworked as it is 🥲

(We had some success with BT where they removed several redundant phone boxes for each new InLink digital advert)

Ugly digital advertising? Revenue targets because we’ve got no money, and legislation that restricts our ability to say no when an application is made (usually just highways or amenity impacts).
We can’t refuse because we’d prefer higher design quality.

And an ugly engineering led railway station to boot. Shame, eh

Agreed - the irony of out-of-town retail parks in Newham being replaced by big box industrial distribution warehouses for Amazon etc…
anonopin.bsky.social
While the Internet has had an impact, the main cause of the death of high streets is the out-of-town retail park. Any council which gave planning permission to a retail park only has themselves to blame for the destruction of their city centre.

I think for regional trains a mix is best to satisfy a wide range of needs, commuter/urban/metro trains longitudinal is better.
turini2.bsky.social
I think a mix is nice for regional services … passengers do like to face forward / have a table, whereas longitudinal are better for the reasons you outline.
Alas, GA wanted to have a unified fleet.

The 720s are miserable… but DfT rewarded bidders for maximum number of seats arriving into London for the morning peak 🥲

Interesting that despite building a LGV (and decent autoroutes) all the way to the coast, this still happens in France! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_S...

Oh shit, Imgur no longer works in the UK. That might break a lot of things across the internet for UK users

It's not like the conferences are being held in Kigali or Singapore or something... how much are train tickets to Liverpool?

I'd a stick "Harlow Parkway" station at the north end of the site with a non-stop bus to Harlow... some commuter parking would mean they could build on the car park next to Epping station too...

If we're doing pie in the sky New Town ideas... how about North Weald? Could cheaply extend the Central line for 10,000+ new homes on this site.
There's enough land to keep the air ambulance and industrial uses on site, while buffering the existing village. Bet the NIMBY pushback would be intense...

1) we need proper bus rapid transit in London rather than just skipping a few bus stops and branding it "Superloop"
2) Bakerloop is a silly name
3) Wow, brown buses are *ugly*
london.gov.uk
The wait is over, Bakerloop is here 🚍

The new express electric bus between Waterloo and Lewisham launches today. It’s faster, greener and free all week - hop on board.
Five brown TfL double-decker buses wrapped with “Bakerloop” lettering - parked in a row

Digital ID is gonna be another embarrassing U-turn for Starmer, I can see it from here.

“Oh but Suzuka 2005 was great!!!”
Yes, even the dogshit seasons can have amazing races
turini2.bsky.social
Splitting the line would allow for much higher frequencies - it’s a long term aim of TfL.
turini2.bsky.social
And TfL doesn’t have the billion quid to rebuild it…

And when we go to France… a land of milk and honey, supermarket wise

What is this, the fascism cheering section of NYT? Abusing government power to silence critics shouldn’t be headlined with “success”

Eurovision rumours are that some broadcasters (including Germany) will withdraw if Israel isn’t permitted to take part, and on the other side RTE, RTVE & others publicly saying they’ll withdraw if Israel takes part…

Tim Davie at the Beeb saying “Eurovision isn’t political” is a laughable statement.
