So this bothers me a little bit. Shout's 4K disc of TIMECOP features the sound effect of the Intermedia Films logo rather than Largo Entertainment's usual music, and it's very weird. It's jarring.

On brand for this franchise. I kinda expected this. But this also means we won’t see another Tron movie for another 15-20 years. Oh, well, at least we have these three awesome films!

‘TRON: ARES’ underperforms and earns $60M in its worldwide box office opening weekend.

For comparison, ‘MORBIUS’ opened to $84M.

You put Norman Reedus in a Merchant Ivory film, or a space adventure, and he just shows up with the exact same look, huh? Interesting.

Please let's help Val and her roommate to cover their rent. They're having a rough time coming up with the money they need to stay housed. If you can't donate, please share to spread the word.

This. Remember who was quiet. Remember who supported this. They will claim they were misled, that they didn't know, but the information was always there. They just chose to ignore it. Those who supported this, those who were silent, they supported this genocide. Let's make sure they never forget it.

I want to see what this looks like when it's finished! 😀

I've always said that we would have been a lot kinder to 4 and 5 had they been Transporter sequels starring Jason Statham. But as Die Hard movies, we inevitably compared them to the first three movies--and that was always going to be a losing battle.

Don't listen to me, goddammit. I'm that stubborn Turk who enjoys QUANTUMANIA because it's basically the MCU's Tron.
turkishmeatchugger.bsky.social
That's not to dismiss your initial post, by the way. I do think that making movies for younger generations is important, but people our age also deserve nice things. 😅

I suck at interaction on here. I'm a little too old for social media. So I'm sorry for coming across as dismissive.

I'm old enough to remember the reactions to the previous Tron movies, and how people often dismissed them as trash. I've always loved them, but I knew the same thing was going to happen with this one. I feel like the appeal of Tron is pretty niche.
turkishmeatchugger.bsky.social
Well, I think the appeal of Tron has always been somewhat limited. And maybe that's why there's only one Tron movie every 20 years. I'm glad this movie exists but I don't think this was ever going to be a hit.
turkishmeatchugger.bsky.social
Haha, it has fun ideas! My problem with it is mostly the weird pacing, really. Because it has all the ingredients to be fun, but I just don't click with the pacing, if that makes sense?
turkishmeatchugger.bsky.social
I've never seen the first one. It's been on my list for a while. I think I finally need to check it out!
turkishmeatchugger.bsky.social
I'm not 50, nor white, nor a guy. But I'm pretty sure I'm part of the target demographic of TRON: ARES. That is, someone who grew up loving Tron.
turkishmeatchugger.bsky.social
Is this about me defending DIE HARD 5?
turkishmeatchugger.bsky.social
And I'm happy about this, because we now have three great Tron movies and, hopefully, more to come!
turkishmeatchugger.bsky.social
Also, when you go see TRON: ARES, definitely go see the IMAX 3D version. It looks amazing!
turkishmeatchugger.bsky.social
There we go. I know recency bias is clouding my judgment a bit, but it's been a while since I walked out of a movie feeling so glad that it exists, and leaving me looking forward to getting the blu-ray.
turkishmeatchugger.bsky.social
I'm curious, though. People who are bashing TRON: ARES--what were you expecting? This is first and foremost a Tron movie, and a very good one at that. It was obviously put together with care and love for everything that came before. As a Tron fan, I'm just happy this movie exists.
turkishmeatchugger.bsky.social
Greetings, programs! I’m here to tell you TRON: ARES fucking rules! I loved every fucking second of this thing!

Your monthly reminder that, yes, I'm a DIE HARD 5 apologist and, in fact, I feel I appreciate more and more as I grow older--while becoming more and more intolerant of DIE HARD 4. Don't get me wrong, as Die Hard movies, they both suck. But at least 5 is fun in an EuropaCorp kind of way.
