Hadrian's Wall was reoccupied in AD160. But the Vallum was never restored. Which means that by 160, whatever purpose it had originally been meant to serve had become redundant.

Here's a piece of Hadrian's Wall trivia:

When built in the 120s, the Wall had a rear set of banks & ditch called the Vallum. When the frontier was moved north to the Antonine Wall in 138, the Vallum was "slighted" (taken out of use) by leveling path thru it every 45 yards. They're still there.

Another bit of Hadrian's Wall trivia - into modern times some of the most majestic parts of the Wall were being destroyed by quarrying. This excellent watchtower/turret, 45B, was destroyed in 1883 by Greenhead Quarry.

It's actually fascinating how much a piece of junk the White House had become by the late 1940s. President Truman's bathtub sank into its floor. A piano busted through its floorboards.
