My read of #Northland is winding down but still fascinating. An agency called the US-Canadian Intl Boundary Commission walks 1349 miles of northern woods every 5-10 years to cut back saplings and shrubs, and repair border markers. It's the only part of the whole border kept clearly trimmed.
These posts inspired by the latest chapter of #Northland. In which dozens of intrepid Victorian surveyors travel wild North Dakota with theodolites, levels, sextants, compasses, and even synchronized chronometers to measure the 49th parallel -- and got every single staked position wrong, a little.
A furlong times a furlong equals an acre.

Except in niche circles measurements like this rarely come up. But they form the basis of soooo much Western land management. And our basic understanding of distances & areas.

Miss the show.. took a break from the books the last couple months. My next read when I get around to it will be The Path of Daggers.

This is an actual concert venue. Sunday afternoon literal school of rock event. It’s pretty bad ass. Kid has ditched me already 🤣

I don’t even know how to explain what I am doing this morning. 😅 my daughter has a boyfriend apparently 😭 and I’m taking her to see his school of rock style concert battle of the bands type thing today. They’re 13. Send help 🤣

Finished my book club read last night.

I listened to the audio version of this and I did really enjoy it but I also felt bored with it at times. A little predictable; however, I think a film adaptation of this could be very good.

Need an edit button! Hamnet
Hannet is in fact worth seeing in the theater. It was a beautiful emotionally raw devastating film with incredible acting. I had tears in my eyes for at least half of it.

Do I make myself dinner before I go to the movies or just eat popcorn for dinner?

It was the cruelest of ironies that young men would rather die in a war than admit they didn't want to die in a war. Old men counted on this contradiction to make their wars happen.
