Oh huh, I just now realized you can jump on enemies to hurt them, huh.
varanemous.bsky.social
Also I gotta hand it to the devs for this one room with these robots that push you and basically make you get stuck eating your health in one of the rooms. My oh my
varanemous.bsky.social
Also I realize I might be mistaken lol, cause last time I was touching toxic floor that doesn't have a hurt animation or anything it just takes away health, but I swear this happened I think once when I touched the fire by accident with low enough health.
varanemous.bsky.social
One thing I must laugh about is that I noticed if your health is low enough and you get hurt by a thing that will kill you you won't even get an animation, it will just go to the life lost screen.

Oh as I was writing this, I realized similarly to early Sonic there is a waiting mechanic where Dexter has animations if you stand idle for too long lol.
varanemous.bsky.social
Another thing about that Dexter's Laboratory game too, the hitbox on the electric arc fence things is crazy (probably has to do with the momentum in the movement mechanics). Like I'll not even be touching them and run into them anyway. Doesn't do TOO much damage. BUT when it's the fire obstacle?

ALSO, I can attest that sometimes there HAVE been things I've changed on pretty quickly after having an "aha" (or, to put it bluntly, because my ass will get kicked™ hard by my peers if I don't cause obviously they aren't gonna wanna hear it lmao). But even then it's still a process imo.
varanemous.bsky.social
That said I'm coming at this from the angle of things like movies, but even in a show it's still pretty fast, although in longer-paced media of course characters might change more noticeably slowly.
varanemous.bsky.social
Additionally, I observe that characters in fiction go through significant mental paradigm shifts and changes very fast compared to what is usual for an in real life person. The way a character might have an "aha" click that takes a single scene to discover something, might take months for irl.
varanemous.bsky.social
Bonus: I also observe sometimes I do think it's helpful not to take some fictional events that DO have a moral TOO literally because the stakes/events might be beyond what a normal person would ever experience, but this is different than the scenario I described above because there IS a theme.
varanemous.bsky.social
Often in these cases it's things that can only be marginally applied to real life scenarios. I just feel it creates a weird air of pretentiousness that doesn't make sense or otherwise unnecessary discussions. I think it's good to engage with fiction but not everything is a life lesson. (2/2)
varanemous.bsky.social
Also for something completely random. This isn't too common these days but I kind of don't like when people take events in fiction that are clearly meant to have an element of absurdity and irony and then start taking them like life morals/serious themes. It's understandable, but imo wrong (1/2).

I did notice a save at 20% which I feel like most likely was NOT me because I think I would have been too stupid to get past the first area of that game considering I had to basically like re-learn how the game actually worked again LOL.
varanemous.bsky.social
Considering this is a game I last played like in elementary school especially. One thing of note also is that there were 4 saves already on it and I'm surprised it still saves (might eat my words though soon), I haven't opened the cart (don't have the right screwdriver head) but it seems it works.

So another GBA game I had on hand was the Dexter's Lab "Deesaster Strikes!" game, and I might just be bad but I feel like that game seems surprisingly more difficult than I thought. Not terrible but I was pretty surprised at how close I got to getting a game over in the 1st area LMAO.

That secret caption is so true 😭

The general "rule" is that the more the eyes appear upright, the more alert/attentive/concerned the character is, but the eyes will NEVER be just vertical (at least I don't like the way it looks when I have tried that LOL, but maybe.)
varanemous.bsky.social
Funny enough the rightmost expression, I'm debating whether or not I want to play around with the eye angles that much. It really will depend on the aesthetic but I think it works well for exaggeration. I would otherwise draw the same thing with angles more similar to the middle drawing.

Yeah I was gonna hold back but it appears that the blue slime floodgates have opened so definitely get used to seeing them in between any fan art and stuff 💀💀💀💀
