The general "rule" is that the more the eyes appear upright, the more alert/attentive/concerned the character is, but the eyes will NEVER be just vertical (at least I don't like the way it looks when I have tried that LOL, but maybe.)

Funny enough the rightmost expression, I'm debating whether or not I want to play around with the eye angles that much. It really will depend on the aesthetic but I think it works well for exaggeration. I would otherwise draw the same thing with angles more similar to the middle drawing.

Yeah I was gonna hold back but it appears that the blue slime floodgates have opened so definitely get used to seeing them in between any fan art and stuff 💀💀💀💀

Like people make art like "I based this off of this experience I had" or like "I'm trying to convey this thing about society" and even better when it works, meanwhile I'm in my corner and barely can remember what I did or it just was like "I threw things at the wall" or it's some half baked bs/

Maybe I am too critical and insecure about my own processes, I've found even in uni sometimes I would actually just lie about decisions I've made creatively because I felt like they weren't the mega or even surface level relatable thing people were looking for. Instead it's just "I f'd around"

I noticed I seem to enjoy seeing how other creatives concept their ideas, it feels like looking at a more proper example of that because I feel like me making ideas for my stuff is the most "because I wanted to" or "because [insert stupid un-special reason]."

I am actually unfamiliar with this character, but he seems to look fairly neat!

I'm starting to fear opportunities I may have to potentially make similar mistakes I've made in (far too recent) past, the more I reflect on my situation these days.

I realize that with other areas of my artistic pursuits funny enough, It's like a venture capitalist LMFAO (for lack of a better term), I feel like I have to "see adequate potential" in my first ideas but I might need to shed that a bit and let things "exist first" as they say.

I will say this is an interesting exercise in "sticking it through" because while I did get the first version of the design where I liked it at the time, I notice I have a tendency to try to perfect my first ideas and it's almost a joke because the first idea is never the final, best version.

Jan 2024 versus October 2025.
Of course I expect their design potentially to change again in a few years but even then to now I am pretty happy. The same vibe is there it just feels a bit more "actualized."

The "dewlap" came pretty early though LOL, I believe even in the very next sketch

I've noticed that it seems at my current stage it takes me for some reason about a year (at least) to really feel fully settled into designs I have, although there may be some exceptions (like my orange worm-slime thing).

I'm sure if I drew certain characters more often it'd be quicker tho.

So skrunglllyyyy. I like it!

The mental gymnastics being trying to reframe it in a way that hopefully makes my brain less prone to being upset about it, but even then sometimes it just leads to more ruminating because then I'm like "well I'm pretty sure they still meant [whatever part made me upset]" and shi. Gah! whatever.
varanemous.bsky.social
I think this particularly happens I notice when something bothers me but it would be impossible/impractical to address it, and therefore I am kind of just stuck with it and have to either "move on" or forget about it because obv it's not really changing. Or try to do mental gymnastics.

Indeed they are hehe

But I do find it concerning to myself that I notice as previously mentioned I do seem to currently get really upset for long periods of time if I feel like something even slightly disturbs my own thoughts or something like that and it leads to ruminating. I am a sensitive person with strong opinions
