A CBP helicopter circling broke the “eerie silence” replacing the block’s usual Sunday sounds: kids playing at a nearby park, neighbors chatting at their fences.

We spoke to more than half a dozen neighbors — all asked not to be ID’d out of fear for their safety.

“I couldn’t sleep last night.”

Marimar Martinez and Anthony Ian Santos Ruiz are accused of driving their vehicles in a civilian "convoy" that was following federal agents. Brighton Park neighbors question use of tear gas and other ...

three people were actually arrested by the cook county sheriff’s office, according to an updated email they sent out.

most of the 15 are charged with resisting arrest/obstruction of justice/disobeying a police officer.

these kinds of charges from protests are frequently dropped bc they’re bogus.

illinois state police arrested eight additional people at broadview tonight for a total of 15 people arrested today, per an update from cook county sheriff’s office.

And we’re headed out for the evening. I’ll likely be back in the morning, so keep an eye out for another thread.

IDOT closing the small gap in the concrete barriers that existed to retain the sidewalk on one side of 25th. Previously was just blocked with the yellow caution sign seen below.

About two dozen protesters — some holding “Abolish ICE” banner — still in the street on 25th in northbound lanes but ISP has retreated.

Broadview cops trying to clear roadway now too, just driving slowly in a cruiser with lights on, but driving away with protesters still on the street.
vimiller.bsky.social
ISP announcing they’re preparing to open the roadway and advising people to “please clear the roadway, go home.”

Not sure how many of the about 50 or so protesters have heard this over loud speakers. Some who did shouted back, “you go home.”

Broadview PD is blocking Fillmore and 25th at the il next southern intersection. People seem to be allowed to leave individually.

Beatles “Come Together” is playing as several dozen protesters still remain at Fillmore/25th.
vimiller.bsky.social
Protesters/ISP just standing across from each other at intersection of Fillmore and 25th, man on bullhorn asking for higher ranking ISP to calm situation.

One demonstrator plays Sweet Caroline, some dancing. Do not see any dancing from cops like earlier this week.
vimiller.bsky.social
Protesters pushed back to Fillmore and line is being held there. Looks like they’re sweeping protesters into the neighborhoods now onto Fillmore.
vimiller.bsky.social
At least two more arrests after ISP jumps at people seemingly randomly. Crowd pushed over, lots on the ground but it’s calmed now.

Cops tossing shoes back to people who lost them behind the line. At least one bodycam on the ground picked up after the fact.

CBP helicopter still hovering overhead as ISP holds a line on 25th street and onto the sidewalks on each side.

ISP has launchers and pepper ball guns out, some with long guns, being pushed south down 25th. One arrest in the street.

Holdouts being threatened with arrest, journalists and protesters being pushed out

ISP pushing protesters out of the free speech zone, some protesters forming human chain across 25th.

“We need more or you tomorrow” one protest leader who has been helping run the resource tent says to the crowd.

The sound of the CBP helicopter overhead is mixing with dispersal orders and protester bullhorns, making it hard to hear much clearly.
vimiller.bsky.social
Protest leader Michael Ben Yosef is saying group “made their point,” asking everyone to disperse so “no one gets hurt” over loudspeaker.

Saying he can’t feel his hands from recent arrest, he urged people to avoid the same.

Protesters chanting “6pm” — doesn’t seem an end is near.
vimiller.bsky.social
Protesters run out and stop a fed truck on 25th briefly; ISP declares unlawful assembly and comes out with clubs.
vimiller.bsky.social
CBP chopper has been circling for a few minutes, otherwise scene is the same.
vimiller.bsky.social
Counter protester holding “ICE is cool sign” enters crowd and sends the entire group into “f*** ICE” chants. It kicks off again as more cars exit at Harvard and 25th.
vimiller.bsky.social
Back at Broadview where ISP and CCSO are sitting with zip ties at the ready as protesters shout down passing ICE vehicles, yelling at them to show their faces, etc. Some shout at officers about taking orders from Trump as ISP vans arrive for shift change.

#BREAKING The 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals PARTIALLY grants the stay sought by the Trump Administration.

The stay is GRANTED as to federalization of the National Guard.

But it is DENIED as to deployment.

So deployment still BLOCKED, but troops "do not need to return to their home states."

They said sending “armed patrols down the Chicago River — one of the safest locations in the City — lack legitimacy in immigration or border control.”
