We focused on the rapid proliferation of license plate readers and adoption of real-time crime center systems, but police spent loads on other tech.

For instance, police in Oak Brook, Countryside, North Riverside, and Willowbrook bought handheld & vehicle-mounted StarChase GPS launchers.

They announced the escalation of their investigation into Kelly for reminding service members of their duty to refuse illegal orders on the same day Hegseth illegally ordered subordinates to murder nine more unarmed people in boats.

CPD leaders knew cop proposed hiring hitman to kill fellow detective, new federal lawsuit alleges
The lawsuit alleges an officer faced years of violent abuse and threats at the hands of another detective while top brass and city officials have refused to investigate or discipline him.

NEW — Trump has signed an executive order "designating illicit fentanyl and its core precursor chemical as weapons of mass destruction (WMD)." www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

As a reminder, The Handbasket had the scoop that this was coming back in MARCH:
Trump to declare 'illicit' fentanyl 'Weapon of Mass Destruction,' per draft EO
A copy of the draft was obtained and reviewed by The Handbasket.

A great look at another failure by "law enforcement" to comply with transparency laws, and the lack of consequences when they do so.

I finally got an answer back from CPD on Carlos Baker’s status. He’s the cop who fatally shot his partner, allegedly shortly after she ended their relationship.

“Officer Baker is on Active Status, assigned to the 6th District and Detailed to Unit 376.”

376 is the Alternate Response Section.
So: a walking embodiment of ACAB who, even by pro-cop standards, should never have made it past probation and at best killed someone by incompetence and will cost the city milliions is technically still employed and no coverage I've found says if he's getting paid or not.
Not fired, just relieved of his police powers. It could take years to actually fire him.

Yes. I wrote about one of those cases of alleged "ISIS plots". Watching FBI interrogation footage (that is, fwiw, withheld from the public and press) was definitely an enlightening experience.

This is honestly so cool and nice. We are gobsmacked by all the community support we've received this year.

Thank you @dansinker.com!
Raven and Steve, the two person shop behind @unraveledpress.com literally got shot at and arrested for covering the ICE and US Border Patrol onslaught on Chicago. It did not slow down their efforts to expose the abuses of the feds and stand up for communities across Chicago. Thank you for the work.

On Friday we wrote about a Chicago homicide detective who allegedly violated the conditions of an order of protection against him while on electronic monitoring, among many other things.

"He's not gonna have a badge... he's not gonna be able to impersonate a police officer," Judge argues re: Uribe's potential conduct on release.

The argument continues.

"I'm concerned as a law enforcement officer he would not abide by electronic monitoring," Holleb Hotaling says eventually.

Certainly curious to learn more about what police knew and when, why it took so long to charge him, and… why now?
Mary Judge points to the DNA evidence, which law enforcement has had for years. She says authorities "didn't think he was such a danger to the community that they needed to immediately arrest him."

Holleb Hotaling also says she needs to consider the evidence presented so far.

"I would say the evidence seems strong at this point," Holleb Hotaling says.

Holleb Hotaling also asks if Uribe is still employed by CBP.

"He is," defender Judge says.

Holleb Hotaling: "Is he still employed by Border Patrol right now?"

Mary Judge: "He is currently employed."

ICYMI: A new lawsuit says CPD brass & city officials failed to investigate or warn a female CPD detective after learning a male homicide detective proposed putting a hit out on her.

The complaint also says his target recently found a GPS tracker hidden on her car.

It’s crazy how the “Don’t tread on me!” and “Live free or die” crowd is fine with masked gangs of anonymous armed federal agents hassling, detaining, and assaulting people on the streets “papers please”-style.

This feels like the most basic freedom of not living in a fascist police state.
Here's interview with US citizen scanned by ICE's facial recognition tech. Walking home from gym, authorities come over. He says he's a citizen. Put him in car. Only release after scanning his face

Interesting look at these potential miracle cures and how they are essentially incompatible with our current healthcare system due to costs and insurers.
Breakthrough genetic therapies can save lives, but many cost millions for single dose
A new class of life-saving drugs is helping children who once had no hope. But some carry a price tag of millions for a single dose, and the American healthcare system hasn't figured out how to pay.
