I don’t give to or promote online fundraisers for individuals unless I know the recipient personally. Please don’t ask me to. I prefer to give money to charitable organizations. It’s not because I don’t trust individuals to use the money wisely or think them unworthy, it’s because scams are rampant.
Are these assholes, like… compromised or something?

If you can't stand up for a fellow journalist when she's being ridiculously bullied and demeaned for asking a basic question of a public leader, you sure as hell aren't going stand up for anything as abstract as a national principle or ethos.

American journalism is dying. And with it, our republic.

All they had to do was pass these laws:

- you could not run for president after being convicted of a felony

- you could not hold public office with a dead worm in your brain

- you could not hold public office if you killed your dog

I mean….yeah I don’t think LEOs should be wearing them but no, these didn’t originate in CoD and were very popular years before 2009. Not saying CoD didn’t help but let’s not pretend it introduced them or inspired them.
In 2009, this was the mask of a UK SAS character in “Call of Duty.” By 2015 it was de rigeur among Iraqi government commandos and Shiite militiamen. In 2018, in “Sicario 2,” it was what CIA surrogate characters wore to disguise themselves as cartel gunmen.

Now US law enforcement wears it.

Told my old man that one of our refugee families — through some kind of clerical error neither they, nor we, nor the landlord caught — owes almost $10,000 in back rent.

His immediate question was “need some funds to help out?”

I said I doubt if he has that kind of cash lying around.

His reply?

Only 10 cases of Guinea worm disease were recorded *globally* last year.

It may become the second human disease we eradicate, after smallpox.

*Voters prefer path to legalization over deportations for most undocs by 59-34. Among independents it's 61-33

*Majority says Trump on immigration is making America less safe

Again, there's broad rejection of the whole project, not just ICE tactics (see below)

they don't have enough guys, and if the response in Minnesota shows anything it is that trying something like this is going to drive a much larger backlash than anything they hope to gain out of it

"oh well I guess we'll just stay home" is not how this is going to go

I think one thing people outside Minnesota don't understand is that after Good and Pretti were killed by feds while observing, the most normal people you could imagine have made peace with the fact that they could be next, and they are still out there because they say it's the right thing to do.
“If I am killed doing this, throw my body at the White House, martyr the shit out of me & raise hell. Do not be sad. Do not think I would do anything differently. I would do it over & over again — this is too important to sit down & shut up and not do anything.” www.mprnews.org/story/2026/0...

The evil and mismanagement of Jeff Bezos aside, Ukraine is suffering from the same problem that Gaza is after Trump’s election: people have other things that are pressing and closer to home. Just or unjust, that’s the reality. The people of, say… Minneapolis? Ukraine isn’t on their minds. Nor Gaza.
