Hi and thanks, new followers! I can't keep up at the moment, so not following you back is just me being slightly overwhelmed. Welcome to posts about Black and gender history, the history of white supremacy, these histories' political implications, light sarcasm, elephant GIFs, and love of pastries.

I actually gasped (silly me).

Another month-long week, I see.

This is Clio. She did not study for the test today. Also does not know how to read. 12/10 (IG: paspastotoro)
a black and gray long-haired yorkiepoo sits at a desk in a university classroom. a piece of paper lays on the desk in front of her, her paws propped up on the desk as if she's bracing herself. there are students in the background hunched over and working on paper in front of them. the pup looks at the camera with a concerned side eye. she's realizing she probably should have read some of the homework before eating it.

"Antwort auf Fragen
wollen alle dir geben.
Du mußt es tragen: ungesichertes Leben.
Kreuz und rasselnder Ruhm –
Nicht mehr.
Befreiendes Menschentum –
Noch nicht.
Noch ist es nicht so weit.
Denn wir leben –
denn wir leben
in einer Übergangszeit –!"
Kurt Tucholsky (Theobald Tiger), in Weltbuehne, 1932.

Yeah, the display name was why I followed in the first place, haha. Oh well.

What we don't talk about enough is the dignity harm suffered by women who have to share the public sphere with guys who go around talking about our bodies like we're a public resource whose use and distribution they're qualified to determine.

Ha, same. Followed and unfollowed within a span of 15 minutes last week.

If people could not be natalist weirdos and/or straight up misogynists for one second, that would be great.

I need hourly PSAs on this here in the Upper Midwest.

You can’t play with my heart like that, Freida.

Freida Parton says she did not mean to scare anyone when asking for prayers for her older sister, Dolly:
Freida Parton
“I want to clear something up. I didn't mean to scare anyone or make it sound so serious when asking for prayers for Dolly. She's been a little under the weather, and I simply asked for prayers because I believe so strongly in the power of prayer. It was nothing more than a little sister asking for prayers for her big sister. Thank you all for lifting her up. Your love truly makes a difference.”

I have read complaint posts about Blacksky on here from, uh, certain folks. Perhaps interrogate that core belief of yours that you’re entitled to (consuming) every space on the planet. It’s quite telling.

We’ll continue with the second half later this week, focusing on (layers of) agency and “reading along the bias grain,” and I’ll have to also torture students with more Hegel (🫣) because the master/slave dialectic, recognition, and relational consciousness are important concepts to discuss. 🗃️

Today in our philosophies of history class, we discussed Hartman’s conceptualization of “critical fabulation” with narrative restraint as well as the first half of Fuentes’s “Dispossessed Lives” in regard to the production of (archival) power, epistemological violence, and “mutilated historicity.” 🗃️

Taylor Swift seriously saying that her fiancé “puts his life on the line” any given Sunday and Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck publicly hanging out again are all the pop culture news that I can take for today.

I completely agree. But this must then go hand in hand with decentering cars in our environment, making everyday amenities, services, and community accessible to everyone, and drastically expanding and improving public transport. Unsurprisingly, that would make for a better life at any age.

We invented graduated drivers licenses for teens. They worked. But we leave 80-year-olds to “see how it goes.” Every family suffers on their own. But this is a shared social problem, not a personal one. We need conditional licenses for older drivers. Daylight. Local. Annual medical check-ins.

What James Baldwin said (generally). Happy Sunday!
Black and white photo of James Baldwin. He is wearing a tweed jacket and dress shirt underneath, a silk scarf cravat, slightly oval sun glasses, and is smoking a cigarette. There is a black bag strap over his right shoulder and he is wearing a ring on his left ring finger.

How could a man who never set foot in a library until he was in college create what is considered the most extensive online collection of global Black history?

Maybe it had something to do with the story Dr. Quintard Taylor's father told him when he was a young boy.

Remembering Quintard Taylor: Historian of the Black West and beyond
Dr. Quintard Taylor taught history at the University of Washington and created BlackPast.org, an online collection of global Black history. He died Sept. 21, 2025, at the age of 76.
