“Traditionally”, the bride’s family pays for the wedding but lots of couples pay for their wedding, or part of it. Some grooms’ parents pitch in, esp. if they want things not in the budget. Weddings are paid for & done a million ways now. You give what you can. The couple should figure out the rest

No. That’s a very old tradition. I’d say split the check but if they offer to pay, let them. You will have plenty of expenses coming up with the wedding and I can’t imagine them expecting you to pay
