Aetherdrift Legends Thread

Big congrats to Pia Nalaar for continuing to get tougher in every single appearance. Also, despite costuming changes and four different artists, she's been pretty consistently portrayed.

8. Him. The King of the Monsters. There are both toys of it right now and a comic book coming out soon.

7. While they've never had a proper crossover, there is a Transformers x TMNT collab in the form of the Party Wallop, a Transformer based on the classic turtle van.
vorthosjay.bsky.social
6. Another of the recent TMNT crossovers (obviously). This one had action figures for some reason.
vorthosjay.bsky.social
5. Dracula. They did the Universal Monsters thing really early on, but Dracula himself has appeared in a very Bela Lugosi look.

4. Street Fighter. Another one that feels like a no-brainer, but while the Turtles have guest starred in Mortal Kombat, they've never been in a SF game. Although they have been in a Street Fighter crossover comic.

3. Ghostbusters. Surprisingly this is more recent with the IDW comics.

2. Sonic. I remember reading the Archive comics crossovers as a kid. I'm sure I've got them somewhere.
vorthosjay.bsky.social
Okay SO. Turtles crossovers that Magic has UB of.

1. Star Trek. Obviously this doesn't come out until next year, but this is the one I remember from being a kid.

It’s crazy because April Fisher (Eastman’s GF and later wife) looks exactly like a lot of the art for April O’Neil in the Mirage comics.

And it’s not the 87 cartoon didn’t already whitewash Baxter Stockman.

My Ninja Turtles card from Magic the Gathering was revealed!
Art from the Magic Card “Turtles Forever”
The four teenage mutant ninja turtles appear in a multiverse crossover. Donatello appears to be from the old live action movie, Raphael from the Fred Wolf TV cartoon, Leonardo from the Magic the Gathering TMNT universe, and Michelangelo from the Mirage comics. They are fist bumping and noogie-ing each other in front of a bright cityscape background. Ninjas lay scattered and defeated behind them.

Shivam accidentally just sold the Pizza lands to me. I did not like them. But…

Lands are where Magic users draw their strength.

But from where does a Ninja Turtle draw strength?
shivambhatt.bsky.social
I think the pizza basics are cute, but I will never use them because basic lands and their symbolism in magic are incredibly important to me and my enjoyment of the game. I buy into the mythology we were told that we are planeswalkers drawing power from the land. Pizza is not land.

That’s not to say there aren’t real criticisms of how things have rolled out the last couple years, but let’s not reduce it to generic “UB bad”
vorthosjay.bsky.social
Since folks are sharing UB positivity, all my real-life friends dropped out of Magic by 2012.

All are back within the last two years, because of Universes Beyond sets. And some of their kids. And some new ones picked it up for the first time.

It may not be “Magic” but it is “The Gathering”.

I do love the counter to “UB is terrible” is “Magic has always been terrible (sometimes) 🤣

I went to do Martial Arts again for the first time in a decade and my knees have been happy to remind me the rest of the day that I am, in fact, middle aged.

Love it. Going again soon.

I didn’t see it but it’s on track to rival Morbius as a bomb
vorthosjay.bsky.social
I think it’s reached the point where if a studio hired Jared Leto for a movie they should be investigated for insurance fraud because it’s some The Producers bullshit for sure

Pull up
It’s time to talk about non-card #MTGart and why it’s amazing.

What are some of your favorite pieces of Magic art not from an actual card? They could be from supplemental media, marketing, packaging, concept art, etc.
vorthosjay.bsky.social
It’s possible, especially as different card treatments

Watching some behind the scenes stuff, it’s a miracle it came together. Filming was cut short at seven weeks, they had to actually cut a bunch of stuff. Having Golden Harvest’s Hong Kong action flick pedigree and special effects that aged well did wonders.

2012 is my least favorite tho
vorthosjay.bsky.social
There are at least eight named mutant turtles (the OG four, the two girls, slash and tokka, although I don’t think Tokka could be considered a ninja). The could all have multiple versions
