Here’s a comparison:

When Hurricane Gilbert hit Jamaica in September 1988, it was the seventh storm of the season and a category 3. And I saw Gilbert blow down a fully grown tree in my yard.

Now, in October Melissa is the thirteenth storm of the season and is a category 5.
Jamaica could face one of the strongest landfall storms in its recorded history as Hurricane Melissa moves through the Caribbean. Forecasters predict it will hit the island as an “upper-end” Category 4 hurricane on Tuesday. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/26/w...

In Jamaica, WCK partner Mystic Thai prepared meals ahead of Hurricane Melissa’s arrival. Plates of chicken curry were served to families sheltering from the storm. With our local partners, we’re ready to begin serving more meals as soon as it’s safe after Melissa’s landfall. #ChefsForJamaica

Dominican Republic has also been affected and they likely have similar CO2 emissions.

At this rate, the former slave powers that reject paying reparations for "the past" should compensate us for the climate change hell they're causing in the present.
For the record, Melissa's main targets of Jamaica, Haiti, Cuba, and the Bahamas account for, respectively, 0.016%, 0.0089%, 0.064%, and 0.0038% of the global annual total of CO2 emissions.
Oh my god. Cornwall Regional…
Here is your reminder that Bill Gates never was the great humanitarian people long thought him to be. He’s basically Mark Zuckerberg in 20 years. 🤷🏾‍♀️

From the Jamaica Gleaner a little over half an hour ago. #HurricaneMelissa
Just saw this update from one of my mutuals back home. The whole island is getting a beating, of course, but western Jamaica is really in for it. 😢

JPS building (electrical company) in Black River has been virtually destroyed. A police station in Westmoreland has already lost its roof.
Thanks for posting updates. How are things looking your side?
Oh lord. I remember that.😬
So many places out west (especially the areas surrounding bauxite mining zones) are prone to landslides. It’s stressful just to think about. CHRIST.
Oh damn. I’m so sorry.
I had to look into upping my dose earlier this year. Do you think asking your doc about that would be helpful?
I just hope those Sanseito jerks don’t show their asses.
*walking around Ikebukuro*

Me to myself: Why are there so many cops out today.

Me to myself a few seconds later: Oh, Cheeto Demon is here. 🙄
