I am 18 challenges through my #20challengechallenge. So I decided to recap what I have achieved with it so far. Well, it all started with the #20bookchallenge.

The challenge was to “Choose 20 books that have stayed with you or influenced you. One book per day for 20 days, in no particular order. No explanations, no reviews, just covers.” These were the books. I also tried to pick books that I didn’t see others posting. #20bookchallenge #booksky

Logical arguments do not work on those that have already made up their minds, but they are useful with those that did not have much of an opinion before and with those holding contradictory positions by strengthening one at the expense of the other.

A reminder, a start is just that, a start. We can start sooner with an amount that is easier to grow. Since 10% of the poverty line reduces poverty by multiples of that, we need to have faith in people to leverage what they receive to greater effect than the Protestant Work Ethic predicts.

I respect what he is trying to do here, but I would be thrilled if we could start with a UBI on par with what has been proven to be effective at poverty reduction in Alaska. I would prefer to get something started sooner than delay until we can clear some new self-imposed hurdle. #UBI

Because the average weekly allowance paid to kids is now $37 in the US, I believe no universal basic income here should pay less than $160 a month. No adult should have an income floor lower than the average kid's. So when we implement one, let's start north of there at minimum. 😉
The average weekly allowance paid to kids is now $37, so a #UBI should pay at least that amount

Notice how the Norwegian Nobel Peace Prize got a dig in on those who think that they would have any love for Trump or authoritarian socialism. It’s a social democratic country steeped in the Protestant Work Ethic. Norway values markets and the profit motive. #NobelPeacePrice #MariaCorinaMachado
Screenshot of a post from the verified Nobel Prize account on X announcing that Maria Corina Machado has been awarded the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. The text emphasizes that democracy is essential for lasting peace but is in retreat worldwide, with authoritarian regimes silencing critics and undermining the rule of law. It praises Machado’s efforts for the freedom of the Venezuelan people and warns of growing authoritarianism. Beside the text is a photo of Machado smiling and waving to supporters during a public rally, wearing a white shirt and light cap, surrounded by cheering people.

Trump learned everything he was going to learn about how to president from his early adulthood during the Nixon era.

Every time that there is wall to wall coverage of a crime here in the U.S., I should probably share these statistics. Maybe if the audience is aware of poor journalistic ethics, we will seek better media coverage. #Biases #Journalism #Ethics #Positivity

At Costco, my 8yo daughter saw a big family of 6.
She saw them as one family with 2 moms.
Later she revised: “Maybe one’s the oldest daughter, the other mommy probably just didn’t come with them.”
Even though she probably wasn’t correct, I admire her logic and inclusive assumption. #LGBTQ #positive

Hope doesn’t have to feel bright to be real.
Sometimes it’s quiet,
a choice to keep moving when results haven’t arrived.

Progress rarely looks like progress up close.
But patience compounds.
Resilience accrues interest.

Keep investing.

Yes, that is exactly what I am saying. Also, if we are more accepting of human variation, we can see much more benevolence amongst those that are uncharitably referred to as neutral by the concrete and neurotypical.
williamlmiller.bsky.social
Yes. The benevolent is good willed. Having an agenda doesn’t mean that that agenda need be malevolent.

Can’t speak for everyone else, but I am definitely working on getting my showing out there. It may still come off a bit like telling, because I work primarily in the arena of nonfiction. Concretizing the abstract can still be a bit abstract when what you’re communicating is already a bit abstract.

Here’s a portion with “safe” within the word “safer”. #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts #WIPSnips #Writersky #WriteSky #Semmelweis #Lister #History #Science
Just as Semmelweis had discovered, doctors and medical students often moved from performing autopsies or treating infected wounds directly to examining pregnant women, unknowingly transferring lethal microorganisms to their patients. Lister’s antiseptic methods, when implemented, drastically reduced these deaths, including those related to childbirth. With improved hygiene and sterilization practices, maternal deaths plummeted, and childbirth became significantly safer.

Freedom isn’t a lightning strike.
It’s a skill honed through feedback, failure, and renewal.

Each week is practice in adaptation: either hold or pivot; turn uncertainty into momentum.

Autonomy grows through practice.

Thank you for explaining this. I got in an argument with someone before who cited this book series. Having not read it, I could only cite real world studies to argue against their referencing fiction. Knowing that the authors were actually attempting to portray authoritarianism badly makes sense.

I spent 3 years imagining, researching, and writing “Universal Basic Income and Value Realization: Metaphysical Insights for Implementation in the United States” & this is exactly the point. We need to recognize that ending poverty is an investment in its own right. doi.org/10.31235/osf...

Thus a UBI would facilitate the capacity for higher order growth potential of the economy and establish a better metaphysical intuition that bequeathed to the world from the 16th century.
williamlmiller.bsky.social
An addition to his metaphysics being faulty, since he was >200 years before the advent of economics, it implied bad economics. People are not units of work. We’re are the valuers. Value is information that is transmitted into the economy through consumption which isn’t loss but the point.

You can blame Jean Calvin for this one. It’s his predestination based Protestant Work Ethic. Those few elect by God to go to heaven can be recognized by the their health & diligence. The remainder are not blessed and nothing can really be done to change their ultimate outcomes. He was wrong.

Grrrr…. Tariffs (import taxes) are one of the most regressive, impoverishing, and economically damaging forms of taxation. They also increase the chance of war. Thankfully, the rest of the world is not falling for the stupidity of it this time.

Jenner, Semmelweis, Lister, Fleming, Florey, Chain, Haber, Bosch, and Borlaug are scientists that made every life today possible, not politicians or generals. Everyone should know them better than any Emperor. They should have our unceasing gratitude.

Deportations and the security apparatus around them are clearly cruel, inhumane, disproportionate to any crime, and fundamentally impoverishing. We should end them and advocate for a constitutional amendment to allow people to live, work, and travel freely.
