Hello! It's me! I'm Seán, dark fantasy writer and wizard enjoyer. Talk to me about kung fu movies, Souls games, and dungeon synth.

I write Shadows & Sorcery, a weekly dark fantasy flash fiction publication on Substack, plus a monthly serial novel, The Path of Poison. I also draw sometimes.
Logo for my dark fantasy flash fiction publication, Shadows & Sorcery on Substack. The name is written in a stylized gothic font surrounded by a white crescent. Some kinda scary wraith in armour! Gene freak barbarian found in the bowels of a lost generation ship. Mutated and adapted for brutal combat in the cramped halls. Atmospheric sketch of the Loch Ness Monster in silhouette set against clouds, mist, and hills.

I don't go in for all that "writing my curse and burden" artsy stuff, because in this case, Shadows & Sorcery is a real curse placed on me by a real witch! I must write fantasy flash fiction for eternity, and you must read it.👁️👁️

For context, the Mordai all look alike, with only extremely minor visual differences. They have a sense organ that takes the place of sight, sound, and smell that lets them recognize others individually. It's not perfect and so lets certain games like spy games work well.

10. Mordai competitive games all use the dead, they literally do not play games themselves. They love duelling tournaments, storyteller-led mock battles, not-chess with life-sized pieces, and then a game where they perform fake espionage and house invasions for a prize.

Gold is RARE, how'd that become the colour you ascribe to magic?
wizardhill.bsky.social
I appreciate the specifics!😂 I sometimes see poison as bright green, too
wizardhill.bsky.social
White for magic is also extremely rare
wizardhill.bsky.social
Yellow lightning gang rise up, can't believe it's so rare
wizardhill.bsky.social
This answer interests me greatly because these colours in particular seem to be an extremely broad consensus and I'm wondering how exactly they came to be!

White for lightning is a rare one!

9. What use have they for boardgames when they have countless corpses at their command as essentially extensions of themselves? Every game in this culture has full sized pieces, up to and including mock warfare, espionage, duelling tournaments, etc.

Rough around the edges is may be, stupid as hell in some areas, and it won't be winning any awards for conceptual originality, but its three factions have enough distinct flavour for roleplay and replay purposes, the combat has just enough sauce to feel fresh, and the areas are GOOD.

Restarted my Lords of the Fallen knight gear only playthrough with the actual knight class and having good fun

Of all the soulslikes I've played, this game really does come the closest to feeling like a souls game in its exploration-combat-loot gameplay loop, no others have scratched the itch

I am conduction Important Research

With no context, in your head, what colour do you associate these three things with:

-poison
-lightning
-magic

You may ask, Seán how have you written so many stories? Is there something wrong with you? The answer is: yes! I'm a profoundly deranged hermit and Shadows & Sorcery is the result of my dark enlightenment. The best part is the stories are free!

Unsurprising but miserable. Businesses really do have a funny way of treating artists like an infinite resource. We're a dime a dozen to them. So many people who do everything they can to not pay others. Professional weasels. Hope you get paid soon.

I respect the audacity of the TTRPG account following me after posting this but I really don't think my loathsome ass is ever playing one🙏

Instead of daydreaming wistfully about a TTRPG character I know I'll never play that has me ending up bitter and sad, I'm gonna swap out a letter, get mad, and write

Could be this flux of emotions does the trick and gets me on track for this week

The Phantasm theme keeps popping up in weird places, and the latest place I've located it is about 1min into this 1996 German black metal demo
