Scott Arniel says Haydn Fleury is "pretty sore."

Fleury took a shot off the "side of the kneecap."

Ouch. Yes, yes that would make a person pretty sore.

Arniel says the next step is to see how Fleury is doing tomorrow morning.

Dogged defending down the stretch, too, with big plays by a beleaguered #NHLJets defence, including three blocks by Logan Stanley.

Connor Hellebuyck finishes the day with 29 saves on 31 shots.

Jets are 1-1-0.
wpgmurat.bsky.social
The Winnipeg Jets hold on. Mark Scheifele's ridiculous second- and third-period goals key them to their first win.

3-2 #NHLJets final.
wpgmurat.bsky.social
A third block by Stanley and eventually a Tanner Pearson rush towards an empty net... But Pearson misfires and then gets called for tripping.

17.4 seconds left. Kings net empty. 6-on-4.
wpgmurat.bsky.social
Two blocks by Stanley. Multiple saves by Hellebuyck. Blocks by Pearson and DeMelo. Now Namestnikov gets his body on one.

Kings are playing keepaway but the Jets are holding on late.

Neal Pionk with the WWE takedown of Brandt Clarke in front of the #NHLJets net. Kings are pressing. Jets to the PK with 3:30 left in the third.
wpgmurat.bsky.social
Mark Scheifele tips home a Josh Morrissey wrist shot to put the #NHLJets up 3-2 with 8:13 left in the third.
wpgmurat.bsky.social
Yeah, that's a possibility too. I remember a lot of undue panic when the Perfetti-Namestnikov-Ehlers line didn't score early last year. They got it going.

The D worries me.
wpgmurat.bsky.social
The early season #NHLJets scouting report is that it's Connor/Scheifele/Vilardi/Morrissey/Hellebuyck vs. the world, with Morgan Barron also suddenly unstoppable.

I'm not sure if it's enough to tread water until Samberg, Lowry, and Perfetti are back, but... It might be?
wpgmurat.bsky.social
It's a good #NHLJets bounce on an all-hustle play from Scheifele and Barron alike.
wpgmurat.bsky.social
Mark Scheifele's first goal of the season is a beauty. Huge shorthanded play by Morgan Barron leads to Scheifele streaking up the ice, getting hauled down, and watching his pass attempt go in off the Kings' D.

2-2.
wpgmurat.bsky.social
Adrian Kempe. 2-1 Kings. Great passing play between Kempe, Kuzmenko, and Kopitar to set up what was essentially a tap-in.
wpgmurat.bsky.social
Mikey Anderson finishes off a great top line Kings shift by firing through traffic. Anze Kopitar was in front, but I think it was a screen / not a tip.

1-1.
wpgmurat.bsky.social
One brilliant dangle, many moments of chaos.
wpgmurat.bsky.social
Mark Scheifele's been really good. Alex Iafallo's finish was pristine, set up by a great Kyle Connor pass.

Toews has looked incrementally better than in G1. Nikita Chibrikov has been more involved.

Haydn Fleury is high event. Jets D better so far but still working stuff out.
wpgmurat.bsky.social
1-0 #NHLJets after one.

Winnipeg controlled most of the first period, earning multiple power plays and opening the scoring with Alex Iafallo's bardown shot from the slot.

Big hit from Stanley led to a Malott/Schenn fight.

Late, the Kings pushed back and made things physical.
wpgmurat.bsky.social
Jonathan Toews is daring the hockey gods to give him a freebie for his first #NHLJets goal.

Sneak attacks, bad angles, and surprising shots.

He's been good.
wpgmurat.bsky.social
Now Kempe hits the post on another shorthanded rush chance. Scheifele was robbed by Kuemper earlier but the Kings' PK has been dangerous, too.
wpgmurat.bsky.social
Joel Armia steals from Vladislav Namesntikov and then Adrian Kempe gets a shorthanded rush chance.

Jonathan Toews may have saved a goal with his backcheck.
wpgmurat.bsky.social
Logan Stanley levels Alex Turcotte. Jeff Malott steps up, dropping the gloves with Luke Schenn.
wpgmurat.bsky.social
(OK it was me who was stunned. That was a great pass and the Kings were caught between coverage decisions. Joel Edmundson seemed to consider sliding over to help but ultimately froze, while Anze Kopitar was a step behind.)
wpgmurat.bsky.social
Great pass by Kyle Connor, who picks up his first assist and fourth point of the new season.

Second assist goes to Gabriel Vilardi.
wpgmurat.bsky.social
Alex Iafallo, stunned for a moment by the time and space he got in the slot, goes bar down to make it 1-0 #NHLJets. It's a power play goal.
wpgmurat.bsky.social
Strong first line shift gives Winnipeg an early power play. Mark Scheifele was shifty, creating space that led to the Kings running around for a full shift.
