It’s not social media - it’s mainstream rugby media that caused this
Your point raises serious questions about Farrell and Ireland. What were they thinking making him number one with no experience behind him? Crowley was and continues to be levels ahead of him.
I don’t want it to be because I didn’t enjoy the project player discourse. That said it’s the best now as they don’t seem to have any hidden agenda
They didn’t switch to the SA until last November. If you don’t believe me, believe the numbers. Possesion, passes, rucks, tries all down. Kicks up. Most metrics shifting by around 20% so a very clear style change

It’s a question everyone is asking.

Is Simon Easterby’s involvement at Ireland negatively effecting Leinster?
Would any other country blame a club coach for failings at National level? It’s nuts
Hi Will, as the full stats are now out on the 6 nations just wondering do you hold the same view regarding the 10 jersey? I’m not putting it on one player but I’m struggling to understand how Sam can be a better fit when all the facts say differently? we have regressed on every single metric
Would that not be on Farrell deciding to change the style? If we copy the Nienbar model for Ireland I’m not sure we’ll beat the best teams. We have a poor scrum and sporadic lineout. Furlong, Porter and McCarthy are the only guys physical enough to overwhelm a SA, France, NZ which isn’t enough
I really like his passing and kicking technique. He has the longest pass in the 6N I think. I just don’t understand how our attack is regressing so much if he’s the better option at 10. Linebreaks, offloads and tries are way down. Maul looks like our only consistent attacking weapon.
Thanks - would I be correct in thinking he doesn’t kick enough then? Hence why they might prefer Sam with his kicking tendencies. I just get worried Sam’s lack of athleticism will always be found out against good defences. Aus, Eng and France all seemed to ignore Sam in attack and easily defend Ire
Any examples/ analysis/ insights on this? He stands deeper, is less of a carrying threat, poorer defender. He’s got great up and unders, is a good but far from elite goal kicker. Ireland as a team have regressed with him as 10 so it’s hard to see an argument that he’s a great facilitator either
Have you subscribed? How do you know?
I thought he was Newbridge? Sure that’s practically Munster
If it’s not fair to judge him based on him being the no.1 who pushed out the incumbent that was performing well then he shouldn’t be there. He has been placed above Crowley so at a minimum be judged to the same levels Crowley would
Being rebalanced? Tell me more
Nash had a few ropey performances and turned out fine. Shay has all the ingredients to be a quality winger but needs a lot of time polishing his game
Is it now looking like this was the plan from Nov? Blood Sam, move to Leinster system with Goodman running the attack?

Is this going to move us further away from other provinces getting a look in? Maybe Ahern as an edge forward? Killgallen once Lowe slows down.
Respectfully to make the argument that it’s not bias you bring up examples of Crowley doing poorly with games still in the balance after 60 and being taken off - the SA and NZ games.

Sam has been in very similar situations in the Eng and Aus games

Do you genuinely not see the bias?
Yeah his passing and kicking are pretty easy on the eye but he looks a bit limited physically- that could change

I think most flyhalves keep developing to about 30 so who knows who has the biggest ceiling
This is the problem when you combine it with no evidence to show he deserves to be starting. This trust us he’s actually class just give him the jersey and you’ll see at some point doesn’t cut it when they’ve played this game before
22 in two weeks, will be washed up then. But yeah the idea that we are backing youth with Sam but ignoring all the 30+ in the squad is bullshit
They could move to Leinster… that would probably work
I like the way they threw in a bonus Hugh Cooney. You have so many you get one free
