Zig-on-N64 progress continues, now with video output! fsl.yellowapple.us/zig64/info/d...
A Nintendo 64 console (connected to a CRT television) running a ROM written in Zig, demonstrating the ability to turn the screen yellow (or whatever approximation of it the TV and its horribly-miscalibrated color output can muster). Ares emulator running a ROM written in Zig, demonstrating both the ability to log debug messages and the ability to turn the screen yellow.

I didn't realize you meant 40K in the Warhammer sense and now I'm slightly disappointed he's not dropping a 40,000-song-long album lmao

OpenBSD Tip Of The Day, in case I ever have to troubleshoot this again: if running pkg_add, sysupgrade, etc. fails with “TLS connect failure: ssl verify memory setup failure”, it's probably because /etc/ssl/cert.pem got borked somehow. Thanks to this random [email protected] thread for the tip.

Swifties do be crazy sometimes lmao

This was right around when Swift's engagement to Travis Kelce was first announced, i.e. at the peak of that particular hype wave.

Presumably a Taylor Swift fan willing to pay 10× what they would've paid.

Seems like a lot of people have forgotten (or never learned) the age-old principle of “it's okay to not like things, but don't be a dick about the things you don't like”.

Correct. Peter Gabriel was the first man in Genesis 1.

“Tell me why you wanna lay there reveling in your abandon… Theodore what do those words really mean?”

“Beats me!”

Gets me every time.

If she would cap her wealth at exactly $999,999,999.99 she would achieve perfection.

Not technically Swift's fault, sure, but that “winning” can have some pretty nasty second-order effects that I reckon contribute to negatively-polarized views around her.

I don't think my folks are dumb for being mad about how they booked a hotel in KC that last minute cancelled their reservation in order to resell it because TSwift was gonna be at a Chiefs game, leaving them stranded because virtually every other hotel was booked solid for the same reason.

Where are you getting 14.3 million from? Israel's own Central Bureau of Statistics reports 10.135 million as of this July. Are you adding the Gaza and West Bank populations to that figure?

That (photoshopped) screenshot notably neither implies* nor explies “Israelis invented gumbo”.

(* at least as far as the text itself goes; the meme intentionally fabricates an implication.)

Not enough people, unfortunately.

We are talking about more than that 44.9% (since some descendants of Mizrahim are in other slices of that pie, notably incl. the “Mixed” slice), but otherwise yes.
yellowapple.us
I'm avoiding the assumption that all persons who descend from Mizrahim identify as Mizrahi, because the core point — that a plurality of Israeli Jews actually have very recent ties to the Middle East and North Africa rather than Eastern Europe — is a matter of ancestry rather than current identity.

Like yeah, there's obviously more to a healthy multicultural and cosmopolitan society than just mashing a bunch of cuisines together, and by no means should cultural admixture *stop* at food, but culinary fusion is a pretty essential stepping stone toward deeper cultural appreciation and evolution.
yellowapple.us
Right? Cuisine is the closest thing humans have to a universal language, and fusion cuisines represent the use of that universal language to bridge cultural divides and even plant the seeds of entirely new cultures. It's saddening when people malign such a beautiful thing.
yellowapple.us
“Many” is doing a lot of heavy lifting there, given that (last I checked) Mizrahim and their descendants constitute a plurality of Israeli Jews.
