Suzerainty
[su·zer·ain·ty] noun
An informal signifier used to demonstrate that the speaker has recently read Blood Meridian, and that while you talk he is imagining Judge Holden as he would be depicted in an AMC prestige television drama of the mid-2010s

Everything about Zeta Gundam rules except actually having to watch it. Marathoning that show was like getting a very painful surgery that improved my quality of life after recovery

cosigning Figura & Create. Also Alex's Mobs, which adds a bunch of passive animals to each biome (and a very small selection of hostile ones) and makes the world feel a lot more alive. Aquaculture 2 does the same thing but for fish!

Act 2 all "Ooo it was so scary they had SO much lore... their culture and art was so intricate & had so much trivia to memorize but it was HIDEOUS trust me... they had so many schisms & weird digressions in their very cool but EXISTENTIALLY GROSS history... it made me SO SICK I wrote a dissertation"

I'll be a little kinder to GDT: The Only Movie Hollywood Lets Him Make would be directed like a CW show. Unfettered by capital, I think it would be three hours of the history of the Elder Things, their culture, their husbandry of the Shoggoths etc, with Attenborough narration. A generational triumph

I wish Del Toro's direct adaptation got made, but at the same time I feel like it would have been, at best, a bitchin visual imagination showcase directed like an episode of a CW show.

Really looking forward to Penguin Colony though. Hell of a trailer

As many have noted, it's an archetypal text ala Frankenstein with dozens of adaptations-in-spirit. Everyone knows The Thing rules; I contend Prometheus does too, even if it's not good. Wish Annihilation's final chapters had stuck the landing, and wish its movie didn't have a fucking final boss fight

At the Mountains of Madness still rules. The clinical, exactingly detailed prose in the first act does it a lot of favors; I think Lovecraft's comfort zone is "epistolary written by huge nerd protagonist." Listening to the excellent audiobook reading of it found here: youtube.com/watch?v=L_xx...
HP Lovecraft - 1931.03 - At the Mountains of Madness - Narrated by Conrad Feininger. Black screen.

I was already thinking about putting together a neocities to host my art, and using this site to point people towards that actual gallery instead of hosting it here. Good idea then, better idea now

Also, multiple things happening at once, overwhelming the player's mental stack and causing them to overlook a small detail that leads to their defeat -- that is checkmate! A player with perfect knowledge is never going to be put in check, you can only win at chess by creating/exploiting blindspots

Idk, I think how well a game communicates what is & isn't important is orthogonal to what kind of stuff can put you in a failure state, when. If it can kill you, it isn't trivial minutiae, regardless of how it's presented!

Masayoshi Takanaka is the ultimate music to listen to while grilling and drinking a beer. Grateful to my friends for showing up and helping out

That's a good point! The old turn animations were a lot less naturalistic (and would be hard to incorporate into the post-World games for that reason) but were very clearly-delineated "movement turns" the monsters were taking that you could learn and read. GS used to rely on them to get head hits

I used to rag on things like old Rathalos's instant-charge (a dangerous attack with no windup), until I learned to plan for it *while Rathalos is doing another move.* When you start playing around the assumption that Rathalos can follow up any attack/stagger animation with a charge, it's manageable.

I think it's cool when a game can place you in check, and checkmate you. You get killed as a result of making bad decisions or failing to keep on top of shit 10 seconds ago, and the dominos might have started falling minutes back. Forces proactive play, as opposed to reactive "memorize the tells"

Been waiting for this one since I saw him posting about it on his old phBB board in like 2006. Excited and a little misty-eyed seeing someone who's been a big influence on me for years actually get to bring his paracosm to fruition.

以前、リモート会議中に描いた My ザクフリッパー。ほんとに参加求められただけだったので…。

My version of MS-06E Zaku Flipper (from the 1st Mobile Suit Gundam), painted during a virtual meeting before. Coz it was just a meeting to attend... One of my most favorite Zaku variations.
