DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS 2 (3DS, 2014): On the horizon, a mile-long sea serpent arcs its body over islands as it swims around the world map. I find its head & trigger a doomed battle. Its body occupies 4/4 party slots, dwarfing my team several times over. I realize I could recruit it, eventually. GOTY

Making peace with being a middle stage in a playthrough on old hardware that needs a link cable trade to evolve. Resent yourself & your circumstances for being a thwarted version of something you were "supposed" to be, or be the best version of the thing you are. Gotta find an eviolite

LIES OF P (2023): Feels like it was made by an elite team of Bimbos, beautiful heads untroubled by a single thought. No original ideas but "plagiarism" implies a capacity for guile, deception... If you ever want to deliver po-faced camp, take notes; Leslie Nielsen would be proud. Bland levels though

Give the best piece of software of the modern era a little walking-around money if you can afford it
Travelling back in time to get Future Boy Conan licensed in the states in the 80s, ala Maya the Bee or Mysterious Cities of Gold. Positive consequences:
-Mega Man Legends and Wind Waker received more warmly by contemporary critics
-MML3 released; Twilight Princess never greenlit
-Sanders presidency

Dug up an old Rogers review of Monster Hunter 2nd G from 2008. Funny seeing which observations were right on the money and which ones, especially after Wilds, feel laughably naive. Also learned that the recent word-of-the-day status of "friction" is a resurgence; here's a nearly 20-year-old example

My most Takelord opinion is that metroidvanias are one of my favorite genres, but I only think like 4 of them are good games, and 2 of those would be vastly improved if they were not metroidvanias

Can't be overstated how much nerd-media internet in the early 00s had this exact voice. Mixture of South Park, EGM editorial and Seanbaby. Millenials trying on Gen X's sardonic detachment like their dad's oversized coat. All it's missing is a comment about which female character is "dead smexy"
