I kept playing CDs I burned of The Toy Dolls and Seven Seconds of Love, the novelty ska band by the dude who did the Sponge Monkeys flash animations. Kind of soundtrack that makes a center divider look inviting at freeway speeds

Forgot how OVA sleaze hits during the early Digipaint era. "Borderline ryona against lady in toku-inspired fetish leotard" is so 2002. We're too grown-up for chicken tendies and ketchup; we're men now. We need chicken tendies drenched in fry grease and Taki dust. Mom can't tell us no

If you ever take another look at HxH I think you'll find it very rewarding! Togashi & his assistants jump between rendering styles in wild ways; characters drawn in a flat, angular "kid's manga" style walking through a crowd straight out of a 1960s Harper's issue. Vol 12, 28, 32 & 34 are standouts.

Shelved By Genre! Lit podcast with Austin Walker and the Just King Things guys. Covered Wolfe, Le Guin, Gibson, Junji Ito, Alan Moore in the past. Great stuff

The kind of carefully-calibrated anticipation of your audience that you can only figure out when you've got another popular project under your belt (UT) and were close enough to the production of another to learn from its mistakes (MSPA). I'd almost call it cynical if I wasn't so taken with it too
