My goal working in #climate is that on Jan 1st, 2050, my dear friend who - despite many other fine qualities - doesn't believe in #climatechange will turn to me and say, "I told you so. Nothing much happened."

I shall perfect my delivery of, "Yes, dear" as the date approaches.

No not "doh" - of course it's not instinctive if you haven't been in there!

No I don't mean inappropriate jokes directed at each other! I mean if you are writing a character who is a schmuck, you should write believable dialog for that person. So you're going to riff on how they talk, what they believe, etc. And if it's a comedy, that means jokes.

The Bay Area at sunset after an intense rainstorm. The waters of the Bay were very still even during the rain, like a sheet of mercury speckled with tiny gems. We had most of the waterfront to ourselves! #bayarea #nature #beautifulnature

Wait how many of those are your dogs?!

Actually found this bit to be the most interesting section. They're all tough talkers when it comes to being crummy to Black people they've never even met - but then admit they're afraid of Trump and their party is full of Nazis?
Snippet from article:
"The group chat members spoke freely about the pressure to cow to Trump to avoid being called a RINO, the love of Nazis within their party’s right wing and the president’s alleged work to suppress documents related to wealthy financier Jeffrey Epstein’s child sex crimes."

I've been in entertainment industry rooms. Hard topics & inappropriate jokes are intrinsic. It only works because a) it's inherent to the job, b) you establish boundaries/respect. eg. I've seen a writer feel safe to nix a one-liner that went too far for her. These jerks clearly don't work that way.

They'll say: "Joking! Private group!"

But it's a *work* chat. They wrote that *in a professional capacity.*

A family&friends chat means equals who love & respect each other. Anyone can say "let's tone it down" without fear. There's deep shared context.

In a work setting, none of that applies.

Honestly, I think if he had not been king he would have been happier just being a rich farmer and going around the world learning about indigenous farming practices. Princess Anne was more cut out for it.

Our new review paper, "A Guide to Climate Damages," is an attempt at unifying three kinds of papers:

“hot weather lowers corn and soy yields”

with “farmers can alter their crop choice”

and with “there’s a lot of trade in agricultural products”

"don't need physical access to the halls of power in order to report on what's happening in them"

Well yeah, all they need is a Signal account.

"I'm not in favour of forcing a change to a system that (mostly) works, against the will of half my country."

If only the average Brexit voter had as much sense as you!

He spent most of his life working to help youth get education/jobs, and leading the way on regenerative farming practices that mitigate climate change and biodiversity loss (decades before it was cool.)

The institution is absurd, but as far as anyone can tell, quite a nice fella.

It's also "imagine living as a conventionally *attractive* woman in today’s society" and being treated like one's only value is a fuckdoll. They can get pretty lonely too!

Depends how many luxury condos they pop on top of it 😉

Agree. "Noble savage" is still dehumanizing. "Oh they're so close to nature, oh they live in peace, oh they don't want modern lives." No, they're no better or worse than anyone else - they want their kids healthy, literate, and alive, and generally speaking, they would also like some iPhones.

Not the thrust of this particular story but:
-Kansas has 3M people
-That's 720K under 18 = 40K turn 18 annually = 440K in 11 years
-Add renewals at 12.5% = 285K/yr = 3.1M in 11y.
-Total 3.5M

How did they issue 9.3M licenses? Either that number is way off or something really weird is afoot.

Pleasantly surprised by some of these.

We will give out a mix of full size and bite-size candy.

That said, all candy bars are bite-size if you try hard enough.

I cut off a relative for this (not an immediate one, thank goodness.) I'm told they are still puzzled as to why I found it unacceptable.

I have heard it from several folks on the other side, in person.

We need to see everyone as people. At the end of the day everyone wants safe dignified lives.

Oh, I missed this! What a nice thing to say, thank you

With my cold hearted capitalist hat on, the reason minimum wage should support a decent life? If workers on it need food stamps or other gov subsidy, then THEIR EMPLOYER is being functionally subsidized to make up the subpar wages. That's an unfair competitive advantage that distorts the market.
