So you want to participate in the weekly 1 hour animation challenge aka #1houranim? Everyone is very welcome to! Here's a thread to explain how it works and some tips and tricks to help you out, starting with the basics!

Find the new prompt every Saturday on @1houranim

The prompts will vary between straightforward ones and ones that are up for interpretation.

Take 5 minutes to think of what to do for your animation and look up fitting references. Remember: referencing is not cheating!

Once the 5 minutes for reference are up, set an alarm for 1 hour.

Animate the prompt in your preferred animation method and don't stop until the time is up!

After 1 hour, pens down!

Be sure to upload your animation on Twitter with #1houranim so everyone can see what you accomplished.

P.S. If you're going to post your animation under the tag please keep it safe for work

Here's some extra tips related to this challenge we’d like to share!

Check out @1houranim and be inspired by what your fellow challengers did with the prompt.

There's a lot of creativity to be discovered and a lot you can learn from others!

Before the challenge starts, be sure to set up everything you need to animate so you have more for this exercise.

Prep your files, grab a rig, sharpen your pencils, etc.

Consider doing the challenge with fellow animators in a voice chat!

This exercise can be a bit stressful, so having people around you to exchange your woes with in real time can feel quite relieving. Everyone can cheer each other on!

1 hour is extremely short to animate in and making anything in that time is very difficult...

Yet, with persistence, you've made something alive!

And with each challenge you'll continue to improve.
