This is interesting. I was looking up an article I wrote back in 2021 on the flawed Discworld adaption The Watch, and if I read this now I would be abspolutely convinced it was a ChatGPT job that the author had them fluffed a bit. The opening, the dash and "quietly deploys" are dead giveaways.

"Everyone learned how to press buttons, and no one remembered how to dive for pearls" - beautiful Terry Pratchett line (from 1981's Strata) that I'm going to start deploying whenever someone posts shit AI Discworld art.

I fucking love this song. I also love the it's Blur pulling an In Utero— Both Blur and Nirvana released albums that got them huge teenybopper audiences, and both opened their next albums with a queasy dischord to scare the shit out of them.

"we sold a million records last year. Didn’t even get off the couch and I’m not sure there’s a songwriter that can match that.” I think Noel might be misremembering last year a bit. He looked quite busy to me. www.nme.com/news/music/n...

Gang, how are we currently coping with *all this*? Because I'm not coping especially well today.

Honestly watching people post AI art is like watching people queue up to walk into suicide booths because there's a sign on them that says "This way to the Egress".

The use of Phantom Planet’s ‘California’ in the finale of Wonderman made me feel incredibly old, because it implies The OC was so long ago that it’s once-indelible theme can be safely used in something else without the entire audience going “Is that the song from The OC”?

God, I know I'm a sucker and it's kind of a scame these days but ... Record Store Day 2026 seems designed to purposely torture me, personally. I am DROOLING.

Blur's The Ballad of Darren really is a gorgeous album, isn't it? I feel like it gets slept on because it's so low-key. It's the least hit-singley, and probably the least musically varied of all of their albums, but there's so much soul on it. As much of a classic Blur album as any, I think.

Speaking as a journalist who has worked as a fact-checker and is trained to spot bad faith takes and language that swerves cleverly around invconvenient facts ... that blog being hailed as "Good Journalism" sure does contain a lot of bad journalism.

Some Tuesday reading for you. Did you know Smashing Pumpkins put out a vinyl-only, full album at the end of last year? Billy Corgan has done precisely ONE (1) interview about it. And it was with me! A proper deep dive music feature of which I'm very proud: louderthanwar.com/smashing-pum...

Finally saw Bone Temple. What a THUNDERINGLY good film. I love it when you sit down in a cinema and from one moment to the next you have no clue where the story is going to go, what it's going to look like or how it will make you feel.

The new He-Man film actually looks sort of great, and appropriately camp. But I'm extremely annoyed that it's ruined a very sold joke from my stand up set.
