“Afro-Harping” by Dorothy Ashby
The original “Procrastinator” by Lee Morgan
Since it’s Fusion Friday I decided to listen to a few of my Japanese presses this afternoon. When I looked at the cover I remembered I deployed to the Philippines because a typhoon was hitting Okinawa and my bedroom window cracked and rain soaked a few of my albums including this.
That’s Roy Haynes on the drums.
I have a Japanese copy of Chick Corea’s “Now He Sings, Now He Sobs”, but it doesn’t come close in overall sound quality as this Tone Poet reissue does. Just the intricate sounds Roy Hayes is making on his drums.
Growing up and through high although I lived right across the bridge from Philly I was a HUGE Dodgers fan mainly because my little league team was the Dodgers. I’m talking Reggie Smith, Dusty Baker and “The Toy Cannon” Jim Wynn outfield Dodgers.
This was like one of the first Tone Poets released after Wayne’s “Etcetera” and Chick’s “Now He Sings, Now He Sobs”. Playing a few of my Tone Poets tonight and celebrating the great Sam Rivers birthday tonight too.
I once saw this documentary on this model from Detroit who changed her name to Donyelle Luna or something like that and in the documentary they showed her on several Blue Note album covers including this.
Celebrating the great Sam Rivers birthday with this Tone Poet Series reissue of his “A New Conception”. This is one of my favorites of his.
I hadn’t listened to my Blue Note Tone Poets in awhile, for the rest of the night that’s all I’m listening to. “Breaking Point” by Freddie Hubbard is up first.
Getting ready for my colonoscopy tomorrow morning listening to Hank Mobley Quartet a Music Matters Jazz reissue. I love the sound quality of the 45 RPM albums.
I didn’t know this recording existed until I saw an advertisement on Facebook talking about its release. It came in the mail yesterday and I usually don’t play anything that hasn’t been cleaned, but I had to make an exception for this one.
I pulled this out this morning just to listen to my homie Buster Williams. My aunt went to the High with Buster, so I’m always listening to this from time to time. The Jazz Crusaders live at the Lighthouse in 1968.
It’s Trane’s birthday today and I’ve been listening to all his work. One of my favorite Trane pieces is “Giant Steps” which is an Analogue Productions Atlantic Records 75th Anniversary Series reissue.
It’s Trane’s birthday today and I’ll be diving into his work throughout the day. “Bags & Trane” is part of the Atlantic Records 75th Anniversary Series.
Lee Morgan “Tom Cat” Music Matters Jazz reissue.
One mind in the essentials, big-hearted compassion in the pressures, and humble tenderness in the tensions—this is how Christ forms a people who shine together.

Elvin Jones 🎂

THE drummer on Coltrane's 'Love Supreme' and 'My Favorite Things' but his credits read like a who's who of jazz: Miles Davis, J.J. Johnson, Art Farmer, and Gil Evans.

Here he is talking about how he attracts the best musicians.

Psalm 91:3 NKJV promises deliverance from hidden traps and destructive plagues. Lean into God’s covering today—He anticipates what can’t be seen and guards the path of those who trust Him.
Colossians 1:28 calls the church to preach Christ, admonish and teach with wisdom, and aim for maturity in Him—every person, no exceptions.
Jesus isn’t just a guide—He is the way, the truth, and the life. Real access to the Father is found in Him alone. John 14:6 (NKJV)
