2026 marks the 100-year anniversary of the 5-day, 40-hour work week.

Common sense says: if your work schedule is 100 years old, it’s time for a redesign.

It’s time for the 4-day week.

I completely support a 4-day work week being the norm. It definitely would make people and society on the whole a happier place.

Sounds like they’ve got the right idea.

Interesting article on the benefits of various kinds of 4-day week in the manufacturing sector.

(We would argue that 10-hour days are clearly riskier for employer and employee than reducing hours, though)

Good!

It’s way past time for other Councils to start seeing the benefits of a 4-day week.

(South Cambs Council have had theirs for THREE YEARS at this point)

That answer?

Actually, they think school weeks should be even longer than they are now.

No extra funding, just longer hours for dwindling numbers of staff.

Yep, that’ll solve the teacher recruitment crisis.🙄

We’re preparing for not one, but TWO major 4-day week trials this year.

If you work for a:

- School 📚
or
- Council 🏫

And you’re interested in taking part, fill out a form via the link below to get the conversation started.

Starting the year the right way: with the 4-day week at the top of the political agenda.*

It’s 2026 and it’s time for a 4-day week. ⏰

(*no mean feat, given the current state of things)

Four day week has real potential to shape a new improved way of working for us all. Especially those with a relationship to care. Deeply disappointing & maddening from the Gvnt. @autonomy-institute.bsky.social @4dayweek.bsky.social

Instead of evidence-based policy, we get ignorance-based policy.

Deeply disappointing.

We hope Councils follow South Cambs example and ignore Reed’s heavy-handed (but ultimately impotent) rhetoric.

One to keep an eye out for 👀

On Jan 5th @ 6pm MPs will debate a petition relating to the length of the school week.

The petition, which has received more than 126,000 signatures, states:

It's great to see an MP in favour of a four day week. A four day working week should be the norm.
"Historically, a lot of that benefit [from innovations and technology] has gone to the shareholders and actually workers are still working the same 35 to 40 hour week as they always have done.

I think it's about trying to redress that balance."

“A wonderful idea”, “Bring it on!”, “Yes!”, “Brilliant!”, “Absolutely”.

Educators want it. Parents support it.

It’s time for the government to back some trials!

Congratulations to @neweconomics.bsky.social for becoming a Gold Standard accredited 4-day week employer!🥳🥳

NEF have been making the case for a 4-day week since before it was cool, so it’s fantastic to have them join us as a fully-accredited organisation. /

The 5-day week has hidden costs.

By Friday you’re exhausted. You buy a takeaway because you can’t face cooking. Do some online shopping to make yourself feel better.

It all adds up.

A better work-life balance means more money in your pocket.

Time for a 4-day week. ⏰
