불안을 자극하는 정치인의 말을 내려놓고 곰곰이 생각해보자. 여성에게 안전한 사회가, 다양성을 보장하는 사회가 과연 남성에게 불리할까? 흑인 차별이 심한 나라일수록 아시안을 향한 차별과 폭력 역시 더 심하기 마련이다. 여성의 월경 휴가에 무관심한 곳은 남성의 육아휴직과 노동자의 아프면 쉴 권리에도 무관심한 곳일 가능성이 크다. 여성을 향한 차별과 폭력이 만연한 사회일수록 남성을 옥죄는 고정관념과 사회적 압박도 비례해 커진다. 조롱과 냉소는 하나도 쿨하지 않고 정치에도, 자신의 삶에 도움되지 않는다.
