No, I was just correcting the previous guy's impression that Obama could have "done anything he wanted" in his first term. He didn't because he couldn't.

I understand frustration with the Dems, they're not perfect, but let's not compete in the outrage stakes by passing off fiction as fact.

a foundational belief of the modern right is that there is no such thing as organic disagreement with their policies, it’s all directed from the top down

they just can’t conceive that ordinary people find them horrifying

Sean Duffy: "The No Kings protest, Maria, really frustrating. This is part of antifa, paid protesters. It begs the question who's funding it."

Sir this is the NYC mayoral election we were referring to, not the 2024 presidential election. Are you a bot, by any chance?

I think you’re mistaken sir, Senator Jim Banks (R-IN) didn’t enter politics until well into President Obama’s second term in 2016

This is how the government is set up to work. That’s why change is rare and difficult, and any progress is incremental. I wish we lived in the Leftist world where magical things can happen if we post hard enough, but we just don’t.

Americans don’t react until they experience personal discomfort, the stove must be touched and it must be associated with Republican policies

Has he asked for their endorsement? It could be tactical on his end to not be associated with figures of vitriolic hatred on the left wing. If I was a Mamdani campaign guy I’d decline an endorsement.

And sure public improvements are broadly popular, just don’t assume voters are the same all over.

I kinda disagree because while this holds true in some respects, the “will of the voters” is mutable. A policy popular in New York City will of course be different to families in the suburbs of Ohio.

As for Zohran, the DNC chair has urged voters to back him, can’t get more establishment than that

You could change my mind by not making up fantasy scenarios out of thin air instead of throwing a tantrum and rage quitting

There was no supermajority of Senators, it was a coalition including Blue Dog Dems who are today extinct.

The most irritating thing about political neophytes is that they assume Barack Obama had supreme power like Palpatine or something for a brief window before Ted Kennedy died.

That depends, is Geoff Johns still in charge of creative direction?

The crazy thing to me is Komeito made what I thought were very reasonable requests to reform campaign financing and LDP just flat out refused, to the point where Komeito are not even offering a confidence and supply govt

Obvious projection after Trump fired the labor stats person for not reporting the numbers he wants

It’ll start with prisoner labor and reintroduce debtor’s prisons, like the good ol’ 18th century

Barnes never campaigned on defunding the police. He made comments to that effect and it was enough to turn off swing voters.

That’s the point, you can’t back someone who appeals 100% to the base for a general election. If Wisconsin primary voters had picked a moderate, history looks different.
5thkennedy.bsky.social
Voting for the most progressive candidate in primaries is how you lose elections. Mandela Barnes blew a winnable race against Ron Johnson in 2022, if there had been a more moderate candidate who didn’t want to defund the police, no one would have cared how Sinema or Manchin voted.

Joe Biden is the president most supportive of trans rights in US history, and it’s not even a question.

Gay marriage and trans rights…oh wait.

Trump can find $20 billion to gift to Milei in Argentina yet he wants to cut your healthcare. Dems need to shout this ad nauseum until the midterms
